This could be a completely dumb question but has anyone on here put like a pistol grib or a Hurst shifter in place of the stock leather a4 shifter ?

Never be afraid to ask a question here but yes you can put an aftermarket shifter in. All required modification to the console or some ingenuity to mount. There was a guy on the other site that made an adapter plate that was a bolt up for a hurst pro stick. I have one on the shelf but it's not mine to sell at the moment. I'll check with him if your interested since were both swapping to T56.

To install? I've never done one personally in a 4th gen but it's very straight forward once the parts are in front of you. I'll let you know what he says about the adapter plate.

How does the button on the shifter work after you did it ? Was it to hard ?
94z5641
12-07-2014, 11:29 AM
You simply press down the whole pistol ...the adapter acts as the button and slides the plastic down to shift

Damn that's awesome lol I'm super excited to do this one more question. How did you get the old one off ?

Put car in gear not running so you can see front of shifter...there is a U shaped staple that holds the knob on...use a pick or small screwdriver to pull the staple and the knob will slide up...careful you don't hit yourself in the face as it take a little mojo to get it off

Oh and thanks....it sits a little high bit I don't want to cut the shaft right now. ..

Wow... little tall, but I like it. so its just JAMNED on there then, since you can not put the "staple" back in?
94z5641
12-07-2014, 01:06 PM
No popo8 not jammed. There is a special adapter that slides into the grooves on the shaft and then is tightened by 2 see screws. Some guys use a small pipe cutter to shorten the shaft but I didn't want to go that far yethttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/07/c70904cfa16fececac57aae9939a374b.jpg

Works best that way. I started out with the MBA Z28 knob with tail. Then I switched to a B&M t-handle with button.
Kinda blurry.

Hello!
I also have the Hurst Pistol Grip and MBA adapter for my -97 Formula, and I would like to know if there is a way to remove the white stick that is inside the shifter? You know, the one you have to press down in order to select gear?
The reason for this is that I don't like the height of my new shifter, it sits a bit too high and almost touches my stereo so I would like to cut it down a little bit. That would also make it a lot more comfortable to rest my hand on while driving.
Great forum btw! :-)

I saw one guy who used a pipe cutter to trim the black shaft and then snipped the white part.....he had detailed directions on some forum....I'll try to find it

Thanks for the reply, please let me know if you find it!
As most of you know, the shifter lever has two vertical grooves (one on each side), and if I cut down the lever it will be very hard to recreate them due to the white stick being in the way. That is why I would like to know if there is any way to remove it.
I guess I could just go without the grooves, but the knob would be so much more stable with them!
