** This is just a thread to remember the day and those lost. Please don't turn this into a political discussion, theories involving 9/11, Zeitgeist, etc...Let's try and remember those lost today**

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone was directly impacted by 9/11. Did you lose anyone in the tragedy? Any family members, friends, or acquaintances lost?

What were you doing when everything occurred?

I remember the day/morning clearly. I was in college and didn't have class until noon or so. I usually sleep in until 10 mins before class. For some reason, on 9/11 seven years ago, I woke up early to piss.

When I got back to my dorm room, instead of going right back to sleep I turned on the TV. I think this was around 7/8 am or so. I have no idea why I turned on the TV that morning, and I NEVER woke up that early that trimester EVER. My roommate had just left for his 8 am class before I could catch him and tell him.

When I first turned on the TV it was after the first plane had hit. Well before it was suspected of a terrorist plan. I sat there the entire day and watched the events unfold. I literally saw the second plane hit the tower with my eyes.

The Pentagon, the downed plane, I could not believe what was happening. Classes were called off later in the day. I did not even go to my class at noon, they were called off before then.

I was going to school in Milwaukee and I could hear some fighter jets flying above the city. Milwaukee wasn't considered as high of a threat as Chicago because we didn't have very tall buildings there at the time (my thoughts).

I had never seen or heard of all flights in the entire country being shut down like that. I still remember the anxiety when they annouced that a couple planes were being escorted out of the sky. That they were not responding. I think these ended up being some international flights that were late coming into the country at the time. Flights were rerouted to Canada I believe, lots of international flights told to turn around....

I was a sophomore in HS in second period Physical Science. I heard something very bad happened during the passing period between classes. When I got to class, I told my teacher to get the news on right the fuck away. He put it on and sure as shit, I saw the first tower smoking like crazy and then all of a sudden I saw the second plane fly into the second tower.

I remember vividly shouting "what the hell just happened" while a bunch of girls started to cry.

I had to go to work later that day and to be honest, I was a bit freaked out. I didn't know what was going on and I was afraid Chicago might get hit too. It was the most uneasy period of my entire life and I will never forget where I was, what I was doing, and how I reacted. It's a horrible memory that will never leave me.

I hope all the victims rest in peace.

I was in the same high-school as Phantom, and in my physical science class room. I vividly remember how everything went down. Russ's teacher came into my room and spoke softly to my teacher, she began to cry and was very shocked. At this point she rushed to her tv to put on the news. By the time she had the tv on, an announcement came over the PA at school. Our dean told us a terrorist attack had been made on the Twin Towers in New York. I, as well as everyone else, shit my pants. We watched the tv the entire 45 minutes we were in the classroom. The bell rang and I went to my next class. By the time I had gotten into my classroom, a second plane had hit the second tower.

Needless to say, it was a very scary time. Especially since we live so very close to Chicago. I'll never, ever, forget thinking that there was going to be an attack on the Sears Tower. It was a very scary moment in my life, that I will never forget. I'll never forget any detail of that day, who I spoke to, when we spoke, where I was, how I was sitting. Chilling..

May those who died rest in peace. Especially those who died in efforts to save others. :flag:

I was in the back door, McGuire AFB. I was in the Honor Guard at the time and just happened to be stopping into my normal Squadron to check in, and it was right when things were happening. My commander points at me and says "Go Home, you're in Bravo" (flyers know what I mean). So I go racing the 30 minutes home at 100+ and just sat in a state of shock for the rest of the day watching events unfold.

Next morning at 0400, I get the phone call. Three hours later I'm up and heading to fly a Combat Air Patrol mission over Chicago for 12 hours. I was on the first McGuire Aircrew alerted and the second airborn by 2 minutes. It was VERY eerie that day, no air traffic at all, just Tankers and fighters doing patrols. We got cleared from Chicage dct McGuire descent pilots discretion if that means anything.

Less than a month later, I started a rotation of gone 6-8 weeks, home 4-6 weeks that lasted almost 2 years.

It was very sombering yesterday. I'm watching a replaying of the coverage in real time as I was at the gym and it brought all those feelings back.
