Haha it has twisted so some extent.
It had a 5.0, kid wanted to do an LS swap to it. Kid then lost interest and traded my buddy for an old Polaris predator. Buddy was gonna do a 351w, then had a kid and started a new job, no time for it. So I picked it up.

It goes 2" into the front rail, down the middle frame rail, and then goes 8" into the rear rail. Plug welded into front and rear rails. Way sturdier than bolt on or regular weld ons.
Yes the front floor pan welds look way better in person. The halogen made em look funny.

Glide with a bolt on OD
firebird_1995
01-15-2015, 06:55 AM
Definitely do not need a 4l80e and something that light unless you plan on doing a lot of street driving. I would personally opt for a th400 with a 28 inch tall tire and 3.50 gearing. The car will be light enough to get off the line without effort and still have enough gear for the big end
dawdaw
01-15-2015, 07:32 AM
Glide with a 3.08 or 3.25 gear. Leave 8 to 12 lbs. See ya!

Or a 4L60E and leave off 25 lbs :)
GuillaumeC
01-15-2015, 09:14 AM
I'd go with a TH400.
My RX7 will be a street car, similar weight and power and I'm going with a TH400 and 3.08/3.27 gears.
I loved the TH400 in the Caprice and I'm sticking with it.
Ryan Stout
01-15-2015, 12:17 PM
Currently run an 80 and it's heavy. I never felt the need to lock it up, even with 28" tires and 3.5x gears. I hear tons of good about glides. Guy at work has 5 of em. May try to snatch one up to build.
It's a street car, but I'll make exceptions. I'm considering a 400 also. I just wanna keep it light. Maybe I'm on YB too much lol.
Think I can get out of the hole with a glide?

Not a bad idea....
GuillaumeC
01-15-2015, 12:36 PM
Not a bad idea....
Doesn't really make sense to me.
Glide needs a different rear gear because of the tall first gear, then you add the OD unit (which is expensive) to make it driveable.
You could just get a TH400 with a shorter first gear and use a tall gear in the diff. No need for OD. :)
IMHO, of course.
Weight wise, the TH400 is 30 lbs heavier than a PG but a GVOD weight around 40 lbs.

either a glide or th400 WILL work... you will be able to make enough wheel speed to get that 1.80 first gear to work... up to you really. i personally would get a glide with a fti converter and not look back.
Ryan Stout
01-15-2015, 04:10 PM

Ryan Stout
01-15-2015, 05:21 PM
PG.
Didn't ask about a 400. Only issue I have with a 400 is that I already have an 80.
Guy at work has 5 PGs laying around from his circle track bomber. Wonder if he'd let up on one. It's 2 gears, how hard can it be to build? I've done a stock th350,couple c6s.

Ryan Stout
01-16-2015, 01:39 AM
I see jakes charges like 2300 for a PG to hold my combo. IMO that's a tad steep for a PG. RPM, a very good kinda local shop quoted me 3k!!
I think I can do one myself for much less. Now FTI is like 1400, but I'm considering other options.
Guy at work wants $200 for an unknown condition PG that he says drove 5 years ago.
Not 100% sold yet but I'm damn close.
firebird_1995
01-16-2015, 07:48 AM

Ryan Stout
01-16-2015, 11:10 AM

Why?
The 400 is cheaper, smaller & lighter than a 4L80.
FWIW I paid my TH400 2200$ @ Hughes Performance. It's their competition prepped TH400 with transbrake, rated for 1000 hp in my 4200 lbs Caprice.

T56-$700
Building/faceplating the t56-$3700 see pic

I'm so torn between them.
I do know that sometimes I pretend like I'm shifting when driving alone haha. Shoot I do it in the garage late at night. I can't be the only one, right?
popo8
01-19-2015, 08:23 AM
Hahaha... ur not alone.
Ok since ur torn let me ask u this.... do u want consistency? Do u want faster ET (No matter how fast or good we all think we can shift... its not faster than an automatic)?
shownomercy
01-19-2015, 08:27 AM
The T56 can trap higher and potentially be more fun, but you won't be good at ET's by this shootout.
Also may be hard to get up on the turbos with a T56, and or, launching may be fun times.
NightTrain66
01-19-2015, 09:37 AM
I would guess the "average 6 speed turbo car" to be 1/2 a second slower in the 1/4 mile compared to the same set up with a TH400, glide, etc in the same car.
Launching under boost will help 60 ft A LOT and staying under boost the entire way down the track will help ET's A LOT.
I know there are exceptions and all but for the most part, there is a HUGE difference in track times.
To put that into perspective it could be a 9.30 with a 6 speed or 8.80's with an auto.
If you want it fast at the track, stick with the TH 400 or glide (depsning on street use).

Probably a 3.27:1. That'll get me to 150mph ish in the 1/4. My goal is to make a parachute a necessity eventually. 850whp, 2970lbs with me in it should net it right around there I'd say. And it'll be tall enough to cruise without OD.

So I need ideas badly. I'm having issues with plug clearance on primary #2. My BR6ES plugs fit, but the boot won't fit and I'd have to pull a header to change it. I found a Champion plug that barely fits, it's the correct heat range but they only make it in a projected tip (PN 7071, rc12pyp). NGK makes a short plug (ktm dirtbike plug) that I can use but it's 2 stages colder than mine now and I used to foul my plugs with anything in its heat range (br8ecm). So my options are limited. I really don't wanna go chopping on a header unless I know it'll work. Here's pics. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/13/bfe7f96327eba60c7cf706c4ea374788.jpg

Ryan Stout

Ryan Stout
02-13-2015, 08:33 PM
I've thought about it too. I just don't wanna neck it down much more. These LE trickflows have big ports and I hate going to 1 5/8 as it is. May be an option though.

02-13-2015, 10:41 PM

Yeah. I'm holding it for a buddy who's too busy and at the "fuck it" point with the car. May pick it up once it's done. I like it a LOT. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/12/e499aaa0eaebdc34a21615f742164f6f.jpg

Wrap the exhaust, or coat it.
You know you will regret not doing it after you get it all working.

It will hide that beautiful shine. Is it that important to do? (Im assuming for underhood heat).

Shiny is great right until you have a very shiny, but overheating motor or a shiny motor that melts shit

Ok... thats what i figured. Not much experience with turbo motors. Is the heat increased thay much over a blower motor?
Fastbird

Heat is way increased when you're leaning on it especially. Pretty much every hot side pipe starts glowing cherry red when under full throttle boost.

Yes. A lot.
The first time I drove the TT Caprice was before I got turbine blankets... After a short drive at 6 psi, I waited for the blankets to arrive before driving it again. It melted a buch of stuff and boiled the brake fluid lol.

What Brad was talking about was, E85 capability on a 24x swapped vehicle. Which you guys know is already possible!
However, what we are able to do is add the fuel composition sensor so you can run what fuel you want. The beauty of this is even with a spot on tune, if you get some horrible gas you can ruin an engine. The composition sensor also helps with the ethanol content in regular fuel!
Its added insurance for the boosted guys!!
Sorry I havent been on as much guys, with tax season I get swamped like no other!
I still love you. :)

I've been tossing around the idea of going megasquirt just for this reason. If I can do an e85 sensor on a 411pcm I'd do it for sure!!

Bracket made, playing with plubming. Trying to figure out how high to run the exhaust. Mustang or not, popo8, I know it all depends on WHO, but would you pull over a car just for the fact that it dumps out the fender?

Im prob not the best to ask, as Im a car guy... would i stop it because of the fender dump.... odds are NO, however the cop in me knows that if I ever needed probable cause to stop that car i will ALWAYS have a reason. I would NEVER write a cite for it tho.
Can u shoot straight down and dump out of site inside or under the fender?
Find out what the laws are tho in the state where u live.
Dan Jaeger

I'm not sure exactly, since we have no emissions laws in Indiana, but I have been pulled over for my car being too loud. I got a ticket last year for an unsafe start, strictly based off of the car being loud, didn't even squeal the tires. And my car is just LTs through an ory and a dynomax bullet dumped. I'd say, like popo said, it's just gonna depend on the cop. If he wants to pull you over, he's going to anyway.
Ryan Stout
03-31-2015, 09:12 AM
I can shoot it down but it worries me with it being in front of the tires. This thing likes to throw flames. You guys are right, if they want me they'll find somethin. It won't be hard on this thing.
Dan, you need to come to the shootout. I haven't seen ya in forever anyway. I moved to bedford, but you're more than welcome to cruise down there with me.
Dan Jaeger
03-31-2015, 09:21 AM
I want to, it's really a pretty short drive to bowling green from here, like 4 hours or so. I doubt I'd race the car, cuz it's got some issues, but I'd love to be there to experience the shootout. I'm definitely driving the piece down there tho lol
