gonna have fun with this i guess.
current setup is some kind of ported stock head big cammed d1sc 355, longtubes, 6 spd, 4.30 gears. stuck thermo > popped gasket in cyl 1 > rebuilt top end - milled the heads, fired it up had odd miss, compression test cyl one revealed 30psi dry 90 psi wet. so. i guess its time to just grab a block and goto town from the ground up. heres my current ideas.
383 or 396 cant decide
trick flow gen x heads
custom blower cam to be determined
keep the longtubes
keep the d1sc - currently has a 3.4" pulley on it
keep the 6 spd
POSSIBLY change the 4.30 gears, plan on daily driving with a set of 28" m&h's
splayed 4 bolt bottom end
compstar rotating assemly from the ai website
uh... possibly fill the block a bit?
what kinda power you guys think that would make?
any thoughts?

How hard do you push the car? Big price difference between a cast 383 and a forged 396. You could rock a cast 383 crank with forged pistons for at least $1000 cheaper than a 396. There are no cheap 396 cranks out there. Not a real big power difference between the two either, although 396 sounds a lot sexier, lol!
Trickflow GenX heads are decent, nothing extraordinary though. They are really good for blower cars though due to their bigger chambers which kill the static compression. That shouldn't matter to you though since you are getting a new rotating assembly, which means you will be getting new pistons too. Obviously you can get whatever dish cc you want.
How much power do you want out of it?

well, im going with a forged crank either way.
id like north of 600hp at the wheels. if that isnt too hard to acheive, ill honestly be happy with ANYTHING in the 500range.
there was a big thead on ls1tech about those trick flow heads but i cant find it anymore. they are 21* heads correct?
dunno what c/r to shoot for, i assume somewhere around 9 to 9.5 to 1, big dish is fine for the pistons.

With a stroker and that D1sc getting 600+ rwhp should come around fairly easy.
As far as the trick flow heads, yes they are a non-stock vavle angle, but I couldnt tell you what the actual degree number is.
For compression, 9:1 is a good number considering the capabilities of that D1sc. And that compression ratio could easily be achieved with flat top pistons. Just need a big enough chamber. My stock castings were able to be opened up enough to get 9:1 with flat tops, no dish needed.
At the power level you are talking, the block should not need to be filled any. FWIW, I havent seen too many people eclipse 700rwhp with a D1sc on even LSx's. Dont get me wrong, it HAS been done. But not by much.

what kind of power are you making?

69x rwhp and 780 lb-ft I believe is the correct numbers, it's been a while since I had it on the dyno though... I'll have to dig out the sheets to confirm.
That was basically my same setup but with a waaaaayyyy loose converter, the stock PCM, GM Opti, MSD 6al and blaster coil... I now have the FAST system, MSD digital 7 and HVC 2 coil, with a modified GM Opti. And I of course had the converter tightened up considerably. Just have not ever had it back on the dyno.
