No mouseover for you......
But for $3500 I couldn't pass this up. Yes, I realize the asking is $4500. My technical insight got them to knock a grand off the price.

Interior is absolutely MINT. Exterior is good, paint showing it's age with minor pitting and road grit but it's not terrible. The catch is that one or both of the head mounted (one on each side) timing chain tensioners failed. But, this is fixable in car. For those that don't know, the 3.2 FSI V6 has 4 timing chains in a Northstar type of setup, except on the BACK of the motor! Plus side is that the upper tensioners are replaceable in car, and the lower chain/tensioners RARELY fail. I've heard the car run (cranking over) long enough to factually say it's one or both uppers.
Paying for it and towing it home on Monday and pulling the valve covers. Going to try to quickly ascertain if it jumped time or not, and if it did, did it bend valves?
Now the conundrum. I've loved the C6 model A6 since it's debut in 2005. I've salivated over having something this nice as a driver. BUT.........with a potential fix of only about $650 after parts/tools, and a total investment of less than $4500, I could potentially nearly double my money on a flip. Would go a long way towards reacquiring a certain blue two seater.........what to do, what to do.

Larry it's a C6, not a C5. Huge step up. Most similar I'm seeing are in the $8-9k range with nowhere near as nice interior.

What generation of those models did you drive though? The earlier ones up to 2004 are much cheaper than the next generation ones. C6 generation A6 is 2005-2011 and A8 is similar. I couldn't see a 05 or newer A8 going for $6500.

The a8 was either an 04 or 06... been a few weeks. Actually I think I posted pics of it when I was askin about a bmw 3 series that I also drove for him.
As for the a6... one of them...for sure was an 06. Ive looked at and driven so many cars...the years are turning to mush... but I know his price range was 6 to 7 k...so I know im on track with the prices.
The value dif could simply be the dif in our locations as well man, if u can fix it cheap I think its a good deal... personally I think the miles may scare some id u wanna flip.it for a big profit... but its not a bad deal either way.

Wow, if you found an A8, especially a C6 generation A8, for that price, I'd buy it on principal alone. Those are freaking NICE roomy cars, lol.
IF I decide to flip it, I'd probably ask like $8500 and settle for $7500-8000. Dealer asking prices with miles like that around here are in the $9-10K range still. I know I'm saving for that other car I want back but I just saw so much potential in this one that I couldn't pass it up. Gotta spend money to make money right?

Thought about buying it... just didnt need a 7th car and honestly that kind of money on those kind of miles concerns me, but it def crossed my mind.

That kind of money? That's dirt cheap for one......or is that what you meant?

No... I meant with those miles...its way 2 much. Remember I dont do the get my hands dirty thing, I pay to have stuff fixed and nearly 200k is much of a gamble.

Lol, no build. Gotta get a couple of specialty tools, couple of parts, and fix, and probably (as much as I don't want to say it) flip it asap. If I keep it I know I'd be doing wheels, lowering, retrofitting the NAV, Bluetooth, Multimedia Center, and Audio Interface modules into the car. Too much money to sink into it that I'd HAPPILY sink into it. Probably for the best just to flip and sit on the cash for the time being.
Nice part is that Rock Auto has valves available for purchase, so IF it bent any valves, I can pop a head, run it to the machine shop for new guides and a clean up, and reassemble myself.

Today's the big day...

I don't know about big day. I' having a non-running luxury car towed to my house, lol. This is after working all night and having gotten up at Noon on Sunday. I won't get a chance for sleep until probably 1 PM, and I've got a former side work customer coming by for a wheel bearing job at 4 PM. Ugh.
Those C5 (5th Gen, 98-04) A6's are pretty cheap. I never got into those though the A4's I liked enough. The C6 (05-11) were a HUGE step forward in quality and luxury, and were quite a bit bigger too. I'd give up a nut to have a late gen RS6.
