2014 Shootout Participation

As a sponsor of both this site and the Shootout I am very disappointed in the recent disconnect between the two. It has been brought up several times how this event is more about the community than the actual racing, we don't need this drama this close the race. That being said we have been promoting the hell of this event since we learned it was going to be in our back yard this year. I would like to know honestly how many people are actually going as a racer or spectator? As a sponsor and business owner I don't want to waste money and time trying to drive car count to an event that this community (as a whole) is not behind.


This thread is not a shot at the current race organizers, I am posting this here because I know that 90% of the Shootout attendance comes from this site.

Cars being ready. Installing a cage in one, trying to finish up swapping out engines on the monte (although I'm not going to have time to tune it FI) and waiting for pistons on the other.
The others just need small stuff, intake gaskets, radiator changed, etc.

Thanks. I work out of a construction trade union so I can get dispatched, moved, or laid off at any second. Must be available and on call for anything, including random drug tests, which is why I'm getting pulled from the cush job I'm on with weekends off. At 40 years old, a man that needs his hand held constantly through life that you have to sit down with and explain WHY he needs to show up everyday, on time, SOBER has no place in the construction trades. What's worse is the employer that doesn't have the balls to fire and blacklist them. If you can't stay off the junk long enough to pass a drug test, get out of my union. I can't pull my weight and yours. /rant

I've got a vette accessory bracket is coming in tomorrow and if it works in that engine bay I can put the procharger on the passenger side. After that I just have to hook up the fuel, wiring, plugs, exhaust, pcv system..... Sounds like a lot but if the bracket works out it should make it doable. As long as nothing else rears it's ugly head that is.

Update: Finally got the fittings and finished the brake lines for the Line Lock, "BUT" I decided to crank her up, Put in some perfume fuel and.......No start!, Could not hear the pumps prime, chase all the wiring and decided to pull the pumps out of the tank,,,Both pumps DOA! So I got online and ordered two, should be in by Thursday or Friday... I will start bleeding the brakes today to make sure of any leaks. And the Thrash goes on...

I had put alot of work into it... keeping it updated, color coded for payment... an on track topic wise, but removing it and other content pertaining to this event was what was demanded of me and the site...so it was respectfully obliged.

Also the live feeds from past years was something I had set up and had the assistance of other members to make happen.

Anyone attending is able to do it, they will just need good service or wifi (which cost money In the past, unsure how the new venue will be). A place to post the info for the live feed (possibly a link) and the time dedicated to videoing the event unless they feel comfortable leaving their electronics somewhere as it broadcasts (unsure how that will be simce this shared venue will be larger than our known community).

Unfortunatley neither of those things will be offered by this site.

simple stuff....rack support tab welded to k member, tq arm cross member welded to body, brake line made to run from master cylinder to proportioning valve and tie it into the OE line running to the rear, install rear wheel studs, R&R transmission (driveshaft and exhaust were all ready out) and make battery cables to relocate battery to trunk.

got it back with brake lines that look like a third grader made them, a nut missing from the front tq arm mount (he said he had to turn the bolts around to keep them from hitting the transmission tunnel...even after I told him to hit the tunnel with a hammer....no battery cables, and who knows what else I will find....to the guys credit he likely wasn't as used to dealing with modified cars as much as he led me to believe but did come highly recommended by a friend of mine as a competent mechanic.

Still working on the car...came in for a drink and a break...time to go get back at it...still hope to fire it tonight

Just fired mine up. Sounds good but still a lot of tuning to do. I'm going to spend the day tomorrow figuring out how to make the procharger work with a custom bracket. I have a few ideas. Then while the piece is being made I will break it in na and get the drivability tuned in. Hopefully it will all come together in a week. Gutted my dad's car today and I have a few places cleaned up and ready for welding the cage pads down. Never built a cage before so I'm not sure what it's going to involve. Sunday we are taking the grand national out for tuning. At least she's ready to go!

It would still fire even if the opti was way off. It would be bucking and kicking, firing cylinders while intake valves are open, etc. If it is NOT firing at all, then I would look elsewhere besides the phasing.

If you indeed have spark, then a spray or 2 of starting fluid will ignite. Give it a shot.

Installed the new fuel pumps and she fired right up, The dyno session went without a flaw, "BUT" when I went to put the car back on the trailer, something happened to the clutch, this is a brand new McLeod's Twn Disc, The car got stuck halfway on the trailer and I could put her in gear with the motor running. Everytime I tried to start it up, I felt the clutch hitting the bottom of my foot, finally we had to put it in reverse, let it roll of the ramp and pop the clutch to get it started, It sounded like the starter was still engaged, A grinding sound for a few seconds then it stopped. The car is at the shop and they are going to pull the tranny hopefully today, Hope its something minor, It is to the last minute...

Well its time to throw the towel in, the shop fixed the clutch now the starter is acting up, Last year at times it would just click once, I thought is was a bad battery, Installed a new Optima and still the same, at times it wont even turn over, just to make it to the race I would have to leave by late tonight since its about a 16 hour drive if not more, The last two years I did the same, finished the car hours before the trip and I broke twice, I'm not going to do that again, Its just to far of a drive to take a chance of breaking again. Plus I havent tested the brakes after the line lock install, Just too risky. Hope the turn out is great, Everyone have fun, Take lots of Pics. C-Ya next year!

Moe, have you tried grounding your theft deterrent relay (under/ behind the glove box? It's gets its ground from the BCM but sometimes it can cause issues with the starter. Just got done rewiring my new wideband (grounds were loose causing a little havoc and everything was generally sloppy). Going to sleep for a few hours then fab up a quick driveshaft safety loop for the monte and do a little street tuning just for a little confidence everything is close. Going to stop at anthonys shop about 15 minutes away and get my tires balanced then I'll be there. Hoping to get to the hotel around 4. Check in, then head to midnight madness for some track tuning.
The corvette is ready to go.
Anthonys grand national snapped an axle Wednesday night so unless we can come up with a passenger side axle from a 64-66 mustang, the car won't make it. His friends 96 impala ss will take his place. Going to be a busy day tomorrow/today.....

You have to do that if you are serious about weight loss in your car. A DEEP dish like that lets you have a shorter rear end which saves LOTS of weight.

The car was running 12.0s... Was built by a guy that raced pro- mods for his son... Car had a very mild 355 and a 100 shot... Rear tires were 33 x 18.50s

I think the race turned out much better than some expected. I think it was ran very well and turned to be another great shootout.

Had a great time guys.

It was a lil windy at the track but it was fun and great seeing all you guys again and even some new faces.

-500 DA, 65 degrees and a track that HOOKED made for some good passes. Only down fall was the brutal cross/head wind but as long as you were out of the wind it was fine. Actually get out of thw ind and in the sun (like on "other" side of track in front of bleachers) you had to pull your coat/jacket off.

Carloss made a cpl of killer passes and went 8.69@ 153 MPH on a small 250 shot. Did not have time to (or feel like) changing fogger pills for another pass tho.

Josh Laitner went 10.68 @ 129.9 in his N/A 383. Once the launch and 1-2 shift gets ironed out with practice and more seat time thi car will FLY!!! This was the cars first outing and he just needs seat time and trial and erreor to get launch technique and 1-2 shift
ironed out. My hat is off to ANY 10 second 6 speed car getting this area ironed out and making a fluid passes. Its tougher to accomplish than most think.

Chris Smiths car was a BEAST and has that "G Body lean" (drivers front fender about 1 ft higher than pass side) going all the way down the track on that 10.2x pass.

ModNA only 1 entry was allowed to run in ES/PA but still on Motor he ran 11.0s to 10.6s

Outlaw Carlos was the only entry made 2 passes 8.73 @ 155 and 8.69 @ 153

POPO, that big tired car was actually a 14 yr olds. His father drove the car for him at this event and he ended up getting runner up (I believe) and the 14 year old went up and got the award. It is AWESOME seeing the seeds planted (future car enthusiast) like this and seeing the joy on his 14 yr old face was really cool to see. I believe that he got the longest clap/ovation since others could see the joy on his face.

Just imagine when he starts driving in 1-2 years and rolls thru the parking lot at school in that thing . . . . . . . . THAT would be a face that I would LOVE to see.

I went to the last two events and the amount of time Popo spent updating the world on the event while it was going on was awesome. I don't know what the deal is between the event and this site, but without this site I would have NEVER gone to the two that I did.

Wasn't a shot at you. I understand the screen name thing. I think big cat is right though, we should have names with posted times for all timed runs, especially finals. It gives people looking to compete a number to shoot for at the track or (for those who care) know which direction to take their build. ie, if your car runs at or near what the winner or runner up did one year, and a certain mod would put you in another class, you may think twice before doing said mod.

I never was against anyone. I care about the continued success of the event(s) and I hate to see things going the wrong direction. If it weren't for some personal stuff and being so busy with work I would have been there to race. That's for sure. My coworker just finished getting his 383 n2o car running. It should run high 10's on nut alone. Shooting for high 9's on a 100 shot.

Max twin is 60 mm with weight penalty.
I don't see a single plane coming ever being allowed in es. Honestly, we need more mod cars anyway. I know you had engine problems but you've got a good setup, you would have done great in modpa

You have to remember, each class (aside from true street) has gotten test passes then qualifying passes. Since we've never had more the 16 cars enter a class you are basically advanced to eliminations regardless of qualifying runs. I don't think guys realize how many passes they can get in in a day

You have to set a dial in. Pretty sure they give you several attempts at that. I'm just trying to show you that it's not like you enter into a class, get your ass handed to you on the first pass, then pack up. Not to mention, this year because of car count, josh (a mod/na car was permitted to run in espa. A lot of things are decided AT THE TRACK, during the drivers meeting. They are not going to have a guy show up then show them the door.

I believe its all run like a heads up grudge match, winner moves on.

I believe BRACKET is the only one that is "bracket" and the rest are index races.
