looked them up and the part number for the motors are the same, just not sure if the computer treats them the same way. do they both do high and low speeds? does one come on before the other?

They're the same. There's low and high speed voltage to the drivers side fan and the passenger side is a high speed only with the a/c IIRC.

so passanger only kicks into high when the ac is on?
what i'm trying to do is use the factory fans with my turbo setup, i'm going to end up cutting the shroud in half, using 1/2 on the passanger side, the on the drivers side i'm going to make a mount for the factory fan without the shroud... i'm just wanting to put the fan that more or less does more of the work in the factory shroud.

The OP has a 94. Sometime early in 94, the fan configuration changed from what the 93 had. If you have 3 fan relays, you have the newer setup. Two speeds for both fans, Hi and low. Both fans always run together and neither runs alone.

I believe it was 95 and up that got the low/high 3 relay architecture, as both 94s we had had a two relay setup, single speed one or two fans

No, it changed in 94. Here is a page from the 94 service manual. Unfortunately the same page carried over to the 95 manual. Note the document date in the lower right corner:

I stand corrected, as both 94 ' s we had one was November 93 production and other was December 93 production

They both do the same work. There's not really a specific "low" and "high" fan. 93-94 will either run one or both fans, but they both run at the same speed. 95-97 has both fans running at low or both at high speed. The fans themselves are physically the same, it's the wiring that dictates how they run. So, pick one.

This is good info, I did not know this. Thanks for the post.

i guess my question is i want the dominant/the one that comes on first to be my primary fan. so trying to figure out if that would be the passanger side or driver side.

Driver side is primary, passenger side is secondary.

But the question can't be answered fully until you tell us how many fans relays you have. It will be either two or three.
