Nah, I don't think he meant it that way. I think he thinks your black and wants to be down with the hood so he used the i double gg and end with an a form. Now if he used i double g, e and an r, maybe then.

Are you offended?
Were you looking for a reason to be?
Seems a bit melodramatic to request the opinion of others to determine your own emotional response.
Id id simply explain to him that, despite a lack of anger, I prefer to be referred to as many things but none of those are the word nigga.

Yes thats what I needed...I need others opinions to know how to feel... no of course not... its just a way to phrase the question... I could have written... "would you feel offended...but I figured with over 40 thousand posts on here the members here know me well enough that I could word it that way.
Thanku.

I was actually speaking from a hypothetical/rhetorical perspective.
It it seems as though you saw it as a subtle dig against you rather than the actual intention.

When it's written like that and expressed by multiple races to one another I don't see the problem. To me it's nothing more than a slang word to mean "bro." It's retarded to think one race can say that to one another, yet if another race says it then it's considered racist.

it's all in the spelling and the way you are using it.to me nigga is the "N word" turned into a positive.
example tupac "i'd ratha be ya nigga".
funny thing is me and a few of my friends turned "white boy" into a negative LOL.

Personally, I don't find it offensive to me, but to say it on an open forum or facebook, come on...you never know who will see it and get offended. Its just common courtesy. A good friend of mine is black and we joke with each other a LOT (goes both ways), but never do it with an audience. Its just a respect thing because shit gets out of hand fast when race is involved.

IMO, it bothers me strictly cause of the duality of the word.
If you are white using it, its racist/derogatory.
If you are black using it, its fine/you make a lot of money on rap music
Bugs me to no end, no one alive has any hand in what was done during the age of slavery etc.

Thats has always been the debate.. I agree with u. Ive also debated that the spelling of the word does not change its meaning...however many believe nigga is better than nigger...I disagree esp between people who dont know each other. What im saying is if my best friend and I greet each other buy calling each other asshole... thats our decision to be ok with that. Now I meet someone for the first time and say ... WHATS UP ASSHOLE ...that would be offensive and inappropriate...
The N words sre touchie... and seem to survive with their own set of rules.

You're 100% correct with your statement. Yes...there is a duality of the word but imo it's just a word that shouldnt be said period. Weather white or black..etc.
If you are black using it, its fine/you make a lot of money on rap music.
This is where I will dissagree with you. Do you really feel like this or are upset that its widely used in rap music? Also...it's not fine to use the word weather you're wht or blk. and you will find alot of blk folks will agree with this statement. Again..this is JMO.
Bugs me to no end, no one alive has any hand in what was done during the age of slavery etc.
I agree..however it's a word thats still being used with malicious intent. I do understand what your saying though.

I have always believed that the only one who really gives a word power is the on interpreting it. I have been called a lot of down right nasty shit, but to me words are just words; they mean nothing to me. I can understand how people can be offended by derogatory terms, but like I said they are just words.

I was brought up understanding that of all the "bad" words, that one was especially bad and to never say it, which stuck. So I do not use it.
So, perhaps its just me, but it really irks me when the word is so popular in rap music but yet, if you utter it in "wrong situations" it becomes a very bad ticking time bomb. I am grossly generalizing but as a whole, a race cannot claim to be offended by its usage, and then at the same time, massively use it in widely produced music. Just seems backwards to me, if the words offends you as a culture/race, why perpetuate using it?
Please do not be offended by my generalizing, its a touchy subject.

Oh yes I agree, very sensitive. Depending on how the person wants to take it they can turn it into a racist remark quick. Buddy of mine lost his job when someone overheard and took a joking remark you would say everyday serious.
