I think my cluster may be bad but would like some opinions and maybe things to try. I have never driven this car till now. I bought it with no engine. got it put together and running and the speedo reads way high on the dash but in tunerpro it seems to be correct. with the car idling in 1st gear with clutch out tp says like 8mph and the dash says 20-25. I had a mail tune done on the car but since tp says the speed is real close does that confirm the tune is ok and its a cluster problem? the car is a 97 Camaro and these clusters are not cheap so don't want to buy one if I don't have to. all other gauges seem to read correct other than the tach reading a couple hundred rpm high. anyone repair these? thanks

i would say yes. and sorry i have no idea on what a tunerpro is but if it works like a scanner and can read live data on the pcm and it read normal and the speedo doesnt its ether a wiring issue or the cluster. because you are reading what the pcm is putting out on the scanner. and your gauge is not. something is wrong from the pinout on the pcm to the cluster or cluster it self. but i would bet cluster.

that's what I was afraid of. anyone repair these? 97 is a 1 year only cluster and it suck cause my car has 63000 miles and I doubt I will find one with the same mileage. this car has been sitting for 7 years so close to being done but small things like this keep slowing it down

Any chance the rear gears were swapped and compensation needed to be made in the tune? The faster you go, does the tp vs Speedo split get wider?

yes gears were swapped he was supposed to compensate for it.if anyone knows what the values should be in tp I could double check it. its a t56 with 3.73 and 275/40-17 tires. not sure on the split I will have to check that. I just made 1 test run and the brake booster went out so I will check it after I get the brakes working again.

Just wanted to add a bit of information to this. You can use a 96 cluster if you wish, 96 and 97 will interswap. You can roll the gears back, but it isn't exactly legal. Now with that said, not saying I had to replace my cluster, and that it magically changed back to the millage of my old on ;)
just take it apart and you'll see.
