Im thinking of possibly swapping my lt1 into a late 80's camaro Z28 with a 5 speed. Will the 5 speed work with my engine or do i have to get a t56?

The T5 will not live a very happy life behind an LT1. The reason GM only offered the 700R4 in the 5.7 TPI cars is because the T5 wasn't strong enough for it.
It may work for a while but it's not ideal.

I had a '94 V6 I wanted to put a LT1 and thought about keeping the T5 to save $$$, but I decided that I wouldn't be able to beat on it with the T5 behind the LT1.
I'd go for the T56.

T5's are junk,end of story
TKO's are a big stronger and if you wanted to the a 5spd then I would upgrade to that

i have had T-5s last behind some good power but the question is how long? the time and money you will spend is definately not worth the outcome!
TQ is what gives the T-5 convultions and the clutch is only 10.4 opposed to the Lt1 11"......if you have the T-5 put in for sale on thirdgen.org for 4-500.00 then get a T56 for 8-1200 you will be a much happier person with a T56:claps:
Ive read the stock world class T-5 only suports up to 265hp, it wont suport the power of the LT1.
