Ok. I know many of us here are members of some of the various LT and LS and f-Body Facebook groups. So I'm going to give a disclaimer here, this is not aimed at anyone in particular, just a general rant.

I simply cannot not believe some of the outright crap that gets posted there. People doing cam swaps without knowing, and people giving installation advice that's flat out wrong. Stupid stuff. Lt hate ny the ls guys. Ls guys selling crap for made of gold prices. And on and on and on. I just sit back and laugh, try to give advice where I can, but unfortunately most of the Times it falls on deaf ears.

I left the F-Body Craigslist group after about a month because of all the BS on that one. That and LS guys selling stuff for 3x what it's worth thinking it's gold or something.

I try to give good advice where I can. The one that really sticks out is someone telling a guy to install his cam/timing chain with the mark at 3. THREE? Seriously? Then someone else says "put it at 6 and 12 and you're at #1 TDC." No you're not. Then they get all hung up on keeping the motor on the right stroke (compression vs exhaust) when it DOESN'T FREAKING MATTER because you're valvetrain has been taken out of the equation with the cam out. Just crazy stuff.

Or the vid, everyone was like "Oh, that's rod knock." All I said was pull the valve covers for a look. I believe he found broken/bend pushrods.

The guy on the LSx one recently, asking about how everyone finances their big builds. NOOOOoooooooooooooooo...........lol.

Larry, I'm sorry, but some of the idiots are better served on LS1Tech than they are here. :D I like this place peaceful, lol.

99% of the groups are straight up trolls. The only Facebook group that I've belonged to that is generally kept in line is Camaros Unlimited and the admins there keep a close eye on all the posts and anything that gets out of line gets deleted and/or the user banned from the group. They have something like 7,000 members in the group.

Oh boy.....you guys see the new "sheet metal" intake that was posted? Looks very much like they cut the main plenum off a standard LT intake and added the gangly plenum to it. I don't think that's going to help thing along.

EDIT. Looks like it is fully fabbed. But sooooo ugly.

Yep. A Wilson manifold it is not. I simply can't see that being an improvement over a stock manifold. I'd love to see real time how the airflow reacts to the sudden and sharp increase then decrease of area as it transitions through.

The concept isn't hard, but that manifold isn't excecuted very well. I've heard of guys doing testing and finding that a bulge at the front of the manifold will help improve air distribution between the front and rear cylinders, but the manifolds I have seen are not anywhere near as drastic as that one is. the manifolds I have seen have a curved hump and a gradual reduction back to the rear cylinders.

The other thing that comes to mind is that they are trying to work in the 2-3 times engine displacement area, which is a fairly common custom plenum size to optimize throttle response if you have the room for it under the hood.

Its reasons like that I rarely venture away from this site. We may not have a huge following or as many members as the LS crowd does but we have a no nonsense site (when it comes to tech). We bust balls a little but still keep it civil. If you were to exit poll the average guy that stumbles on our site via a search I believe you would find that they find their answer better explained and with less bs to sift through to get it. I would also think even for the guys that sign up just for a one time question would be pleased with the responses they get, being both respectful and factual.

I still found it comical when someone was telling me that I don't know how to work on engines and that by honing and putting new rings in my engine it will cause excessive blow by.

I'm like....with the new heads that seal better and will hold compression better, the old rings will give out...its a ticking time bomb, I'd rather just put new rings on it while I have it out and not have to take the car apart again.

But, 5.3/4.8 land guys call stock, as in stock pistons/rods/crank etc. It can range though, from virgin motor to stock parts reassembled differently than OE...

I liked LT1 Nation at first. But the morons just keep rolling in. I think that the admins just don't get on there and mod it much. I know people have lives outside of the internet and I can't blame them for not wanting to be on it all the time to mod a page. I'm a admin on a Facebook page myself "R3VLimited" its an BMW e30 page. But I don't really mod it much either. But on the other hand, we do have 9 admins. So the workload is divided up.
