So my friend has a stock 90k mile lt1 that plans on putting into a fox body. We are are doing this on the cheap with mostly all spare parts just for fun and see how quick it'll go.

Plans are to put new bearings, rod bolts, and gaskets and run on e85. It's a 95 engine so it has the pm rods. What do you think will be the next weak link? Stock pisons?

Also the cam should we leave the stock cam or use my xfi280 (467) cam? Think I can get my hands on a lt4 hot cam, would that be better

Which rods are better the pm rods or older forged ones? I have a set of pistons and rods out of a 94 lt1.

It's on the cheap with probably flipped manifolds and a 69mm (gt45) ebay turbo on e85 and a megasquirt computer. Th400 trans not sure what stall yet, 3.55 gears in the 8.8. 36# injectors if that's to small we got 160# injectors also. Walbro 255 in the tank already also.. everything else will be stock other than springs 1.5 roller rockers guide plates and 7/16 studs, and head studs.

Goals run 10s. Possible? 3100-3200lbs with driver...

I wouldn't go with the XFI 280 cam, I think you'll have better luck with the stock cam.
The weak link is definitely the pistons but E85 will help as the octane rating is much higher than gasoline.
The 36# injectors are going to be too small with gasoline, E85 even worse. I think 160# is too much for your build but they'll work.
That single walbro is also not enough IMO... E85 needs a lot more fuel volume than gasoline.

Ok thanks. Is there any other off the shelf cams that will do better than stock? I thought I read somewhere that the lt4 hot cam was ok for boost also the cc503 cam as well.

I'd keep the cam on the small side... I think the hot cam could work, or a maybe a CC502?

If you want to be sure, get a custom cam made by someone like LJMS (https://www.facebook.com/LilJohnsMotorsportSolutions or http://www.liljohnsmotorsports.com/)

From what I've read, it's up to your preference as far as rods go. PM rods in LS engines have taken 1000+hp (not necessarily recommended, but hotrod did a test a few years ago in a quest to break a stock LS bottom end, wound up making 1200 hp on an engine dyno). The real weak link in the stock rotating assembly is the rod bolts. If you don't change those out it'll be a crap shoot as to if, or for how long the stockers will hold up.

As said else where, keep the timing and rev's down, and boost it up.
