Stock bore motor. Machine shop said it just needed rehoned. Head and cam car. Not the one in sig. It will be N/A. I just checked ring gaps with new rings. Here is what i had for first and second.

Top - .022 across the board
Bottom- .020 across the board

Should i just get file fit rings or can i do something with these? Also i always thought the second one had the larger gap?

The thing to do seems to have went from the second ring being larger to the top ring bring larger depending on application and ring material. The best thing to do is go by what the ring manufacturer suggests. Also it is very important to know what grit hone they used to finish. The newer plasma moly rings generally require a much finer finish.

I know what the stock numbers are. Lets put it this way. Some guys are running their gaps a little large for nitros and some just to be on the safe side. Does it hurt any thing to run them a little large N/A? If not what gaps do you recommend? I will check and see what the manufacturer suggest to.

*I forgot to add they are Mahle moly rings.*

I just e-mail Mahle Clevete to see what they suggest. They dont seem to have a phone # listed online to call.

Don't forget to ask about the required finish prep on the cylinder walls. Its very important

Gaps are fine for an na motor just make sure the machine shop gave you the correct finish for the rings if you have the wrong finish the rings won't seat

I set up a 383 in an old school N/A small block with .022 gap on both the top and bottom rings and it runs great.

Mahle answered all my questions. It is good to go.
