I did a CarFax on a 93 Cheyenne 1500 4x4 truck I was gonna buy tomorrow. I come home and do a CarFax and found out it had 290k miles at one point but now has 126k miles? It doesn't look rusty and the fuel / brake lines are good. The truck runs great besides a cv axle and the cab mounts need replacing. What should I do?

If all else fails, ask the seller straight up and see what story he gives you.

Somebody rolled it back or changed odometer units. That's fraud, but regardless, if the truck is solid, properly cared for, and priced right.................

True, I guess the tag office doesn't have a Carfax to show a listed mileage. You would think with the computer stuff we have now, all that info would pull up on a VIN number when the tag office types it in so they could prevent fraud

It also could of been human error and they punched in a extra number without realizing it

so it was supposedly driven 118k miles in the first month/year yet 180k over the next 14 year by what looks like the same owner ...is it a 6 digit or 5 digit Odo.....looks like a human error to me...but who knows

I wouldn't worry about it at all...from my experience carfax is not as accurate as they make it out to be
I do my own vehicle inspections and make my purchase decisions based on that.

Yeah. I agree. Someone had to data entry all those records when they went digital. There's plenty of room for human error doing that for 8 hours.
This truck might see 500 miles a year if that too.
I'm gonna start a build thread once things get going.
