View Full Version : Tail Light Socket issue?

So while messing with my LED conversion, I've wasted a decent amount of time fighting this one stupid socket on the driver's side, the one next to the reverse light. It will either not light up at all or it will light up very weak. If I mess with the wires, I can get it to light up a little bit more, but still not as strong as the working one beside it. Is it possible to take one of these sockets apart to look at what's not making a connection inside or should I just replace the socket period? If replacement is the way to go, does anyone have any used spares? These things are kinda overpriced at the parts store for new.

On my first 93, ALL the sockets were bad when I bought the car (this was in 2000). Dealership wanted $50 a piece, got the low profile ones at Pep Boys for $3.50 each. They're probably substantially more now. But you need the low profile ones.

Oh, and yes, they're common failures on the T/A's. When I had Baddass93ta's car for all the work in late 2012, I replaced all his tail light sockets too.

Yeah lol mine were all working when I got mine, but that one socket has gone to crap now. When I picked up the car, I had to scrub out all the sockets with a wire brush to get the blinkers to work, but that was over 2 yrs ago. Sean confirmed that link is the right one, so I just called O'Reilly's and had them order one. Should be ready for pickup by noon tomorrow.

Forgot to post up on this yesterday, but I swapped in the tail light socket from that link I posted and she lit right up nice and bright. Easy $9 fix!

What's the difference in the bulbs between LT1 and LS1?

The ones for the lt1 socket r round and ya have to twist em once they r in. The ls1 style is a straight flat push in kind

Huh didn't know that, cool. Just dropped a butt load on LED tail lights though, so no swapping for me lol.
