Okay a few days ago the car decided to die about 3 times on the way down to my dads house. Once I got there, the car died again and now will not restart. There is absolutely no spark at all going from the coil down to the distributor while cranking. I've tested the ICM mutliple times at advance, but it still shows good. Is it possible that the machine is wrong and the module really is bad? The Opti was replaced about 3-4 months ago with a Cardone select new distributor. I know these dont have too positive of reviews on here, but this one hasnt missed a beat the whole time its been in there. I'm leaning towards the ICM since there is no spark even getting to the opti. Any suggestions?

if there is a low res code, the computer wont send a signal to the icm to pulse the coil so yes, it very well could be your opti. you need to figure out if you have any codes. to me, could be either icm or opti, if you swapped icm then its the opti. if you can check for codes it will be a code 16 low res failure, that means your opti is a frisbee

No, it will not start at all. Unfortunately I do not have an adapter cable for the obd1 port to scan it.

Did it get wet recently? If so its probably opti related, either the opti itself, or the connector. Make sure the fresh air system is hooked up, sealed and working properly before putting a new one on

I've actually got a 94, so its a non vented spline drive opti. As far as I know it hasnt gotten wet. A couple weeks ago when I went out to get in the car it looked like there had been coolant that had leaked out and then dried off on the driveway, but Its never overheated or showed any signs of leaking when running. Popo8, that would be fantastic man.

Check the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump. If there is water there the opti may have gotten a bath

Okay, well popo8, if the offer is still open I will still take you up on that. I really do appreciate it. I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow to see if there are any signs of leaks. Its been like 10 degrees solid for the last week and the car is stuck outside of the garage so its hard to mess with it too long. One of my relatives has a snap on solus with a bunch of different attachments and some other handheld scanner he is going to let me borrow tomorrow to see if I can pull any codes.

I have some fantastic news. I went down today prepared with a scan tool to try and figure out the issue. I work down at the Advance Auto in town, so I went ahead and ordered in a new ICM just so I could test it by throwing it on the car, mind you the one on the car now tested good about 10 times in a row on the machine down there. Well wouldnt you know, As soon as I put the new one on, the car fired right up. So just a piece of advice, if you are testing your ICM at a parts store, dont take the results to heart.
