I didn't see a build log section, so i'll post it here. Sorry about the novel got longer than I expected.LOL
My 96 Trans Am: Bought in 2001. My 2nd 4th gen. I traded a 93 Z28 in on it. The 93 I paid cash for- but it was a plain jane model.(No power windows/locks, hardtop, 6sp, etc. only had A/C. Looking back- knowing what I do now- i wish I would've kept it.) In short- not knowing any better, i wanted a fancier one. 3 short months later- I found my T/A sitting on a lot- trade done- one loaded T/A in my possesion. 80,000 miles were on the clock.
It was SLOW as pond water when I got it. Only running a dismal 9.90 in the eighth mile. Done the typical flowmaster muffler and FIPK, and it picked up a couple of tenths, but was still pretty disapointed in the speed. Done the headers and it really woke it up, knocking off another .4, so it was into the 9.2-3 range. by this time I had found a local club and several other like minded gearheads and the modfest was on. Done all the bolt ons and ended up with 125 shot of N2O and 315 drag radials running ~8.1 in the eighth. Then the big money mods started.LOL 383, LE Heads, opti's, clutches, rear ends...
I have had my hand in everything done to the car, and have had to deal with all the standard LT1 issues(particularly rear ends and opti's and clutches). OPTI - Drove the car to 120K when my opti struggles started. Got the first one replaced at a shop. Done fine, til i swapped in the 383 at 130K miles. The high revving 383(I shift at 6800), was hell on factory opti's. Got real good at changing them. Finally the MSD came out, been good since. WEAK REARS - I had 4 sets of gear sets in her before going 12 bolt. Then the 12 bolt only made 1 trip to the track and roared like mad. That led me to the best mod I have done to the car...the MWC Fab 9. Wish it had been my first mod.lol. CLUTCHES - we all know 6-speeds and launching at the track are brutal. Once the stocker went- done the centerforce, then Spec 2, then spec 4, now running the McLeod Twin w/ aluminum Flywheel.(only have ~ 200 miles on the twin)
All this leads to now. The car mainly sits, and does car show(Fbody Gathering in ATL is my main show) or track duty, or get driven in anger.lol Seems like everytrip to the track in recent history ends up breaking something. Done the MWC 9 2 yrs ago, searching for ever eluding traction... found traction... Smoked clutch. Done Twin disk setup... found traction again... trans broke.LOL And so we stand. Last decent pass I made was a 7.64 in the eighth. It dynos at 408rwhp/394rwtq. and has 170K on the clock(40K on the 383). Motor was built with a 200 shot in mind- but I have never been able to hook it as it is- so no bottle has been on the 383 yet.
