View Full Version : Will I get 550 rwhp?

My old combo was 396, 13.2:1 compression, stock heads and intake ported by myself, xfi 292 cam, 1.6 rockers, 52mmT/B, stock fuel lines, walbro 255, 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 headers, 3inch exhaust single chamber muffler, 60lb injectors running e85. This combo made 423hp/459tq to the wheels. Car went 11.70's at 117 3700 lb race weight.
It did make 453 but the tuner said it wouldn't be reliable. So I had him change it. Didn't matter it went the same times.

I'm keeping the same bottom end. Going with AFR 227's comp heads, victor jr intake, 1250 cfm 4 barrel T/B, cam 263/273 .688/.688 108lsa. The compression will be about 12.75:1 with those heads. Shaft mount 1.6 rockers, aeromotive a1000 pump, -10 feed,-8 return. Still on e85. Same exhaust, might put some bullets on it. Not sure in injectors yet. I'm doing the 24x conversion also.

The car has a built 4l60e in it, was running a 3200 coan converter. I'm send the converter in to match this combo. My goal is 10.50's. With the old combo I was pulling 1.8-1.9 60fts. I'm trying to drop the race weight down to around 3500, and am hoping my 60ft times come way down.

I also plan on spraying it with a 250-300 shot, but would like mid 10's on motor. It went 11.00 on a 100 shot with old set up at 125.

I would think you could get 550whp pretty easy on the 300 shot :)

You might get 10.5's but it will take a bit of tuning and that 60ft will have to come way down. How's your suspension and rear end gears? I've done a best of 1.48 60 haulin 3600+ lbs.

don't get wrapped up in a dyno number...set your goal in ET at the track.

My old combo with a NA convertor/gear choice would have come very close to your 10.50 goal but only "dyno'd" 380whp....it went 11.10@124 on a very soft 1.6 60' and going through the traps not even close to its peak power band in high gear.

Funny thing is that car never put up big numbers on the dyno with the auto....it made 422whp with LT1 cast heads, 222/228 HR cam through full exhaust and a t56 ran 11.6s @ 115ish with the auto swapped (never dyno'd with just the auto change) in 246/254 HR cam and it dynod 380 whp ran 11.3s @ 119. Installed the AFR227s and a single plane and it dropped to the 11.10@124 but still dynod 380wp.

Here is the only graph I could find....made 3 pulls to check the tune NA, 100 jet and 200 jet...ignore A/F on the 200 hit it blew the probe out of the exhaust and we shut it down early

The rear suspension is adjustible Midwest chassis parts. The 60 ft has to come down a lot. I think my converter was the problem before. It's got a 4:11 in it with a 28 tall tire.

My goal is mid 10's on motor, I would like to put down 550ish tho. I'm just trying to get others opinions on the combo to see if they think I'll be close to my goals. All my friends are antiLT1 guys, all they have to say about my car is negative.

They couldn't believe it did what it did with the old combo. There opinions on fuel injected is LS or nothing at all. Most of them are old school with a few LS guys.

Post pics of your car. Pretty sure I met you last year at lapeer.

Camaro right? You were bleeding your coolant system if I remember right at the track

550whp is not an easy number to hit through an auto.

If I recall correctly Tony Shepherds car made 538whp NA to give you some perspective

I don't think you would have an issue running your mid 10s Na but I can guarantee you it ain't happening with a converter set up for a 300 shot. Its gonna be way way to tight and not to mention the gearing will be off... only way it will happen is if your building a 2800 lb tin can.

Its kinda hard to build an in between performer that works well Na and on a 300 shot... I would set the car up for spray and let it eat.

Who's tuning it?

Dont focus on dyno numbers, focus on ET numbers. That setup will be fun on the street.

I believe that was my problem last time, the converter was for nitrous and I didn't use it out the hole. I'm sending the converter in to get set up for this combo. I'm trying to get the numbers out of my head, just don't want to set my E.T. goal too high.

I plan on tuning it this time, I'm using HP tuners. EVI tuned it last time.

Holy Crap! When I was running a 3200 stall tight stall, CC306 cam, stock heads and only half the bolt ons with 555r's I could pull a 1.69 leaving from idle in 3000 DA. That launch looks monster compared to my old combo.... weird its only a 1.87...

Yeah i couldnt get the car figured out, dont know if its in the converter, trans, or suspension.
