okay so my uncle has this boat and it had a 3.0L 4 banger in his boat that cracked the block. boat is a inboard/outboard style ... he pulled it out and i was looking at the "bell housing thingy" where the motor bolded in ... its 16" side to side and looks like a LT1 or LS1 has room ... so i know the cooking system is totally different but other than that ...any one what is different or can a "car" motor bolt into a boat with relative ease?

There isnt really anything dif about the motor itself, just the drive coming off the back. Id talk to a boat shop (or a boat race forum) and find what it takes to swap a gen 1 sbc into it and bam youre set. Just keep in mind, the opti does not like moisture... and you get a lot of that one a boat...
Making you silky smooth...

Yeah i would switch to reg distributor and carb. Otherwise pretty much regular sbc. Just need electric fuel pump.

Odds are its a baby alpha O/D unit, and even detuned I would bet an LT1 has the power to break it. They are not rated for that much HP in stock OE form. (shocking right, LT1 has the power to break something??)

Standard SBC pattern. You need to find out what drive unit you have and its limitations.

The 3.0L 4-banger in my boat had center mounted motor mounts. You'll more than likely have to fabricate your own mount blocks and glass them to the stringers while still keeping everything properly aligned....just something else to think about. I was looking into doing this to my boat to

And you will need to fit in exhaust manifolds, and get a new "Y pipe", I also would look into running a fresh water cooling system vs the raw. (IDK what was on there OE)

Its the same deal you run into when swapping an LTx into a v6 car....unless you really like your boat it's much easier to find another one already rigged for a sbc.

Hey I'm not trying to discourage you..... DO IT! Start a thread and dig in because it can definitely be done.
Im just giving you an idea of what all is involved. If your going for the v6 swap you might as well do the v8 because your still in the same boat fabbing mounts. The mounts would be the hardest part. You could just swap the drive for another with a v8 ratio. Exhaust could be run through the hull to save a little trouble plus make it sound cool :)
