I've got my first Hot Rod I bought and built. It's what got me started on the LT1 path. I put a T56 and a 12 bolt in it with the stock 305 with a cam and headers and a 150 shot that got me to 7.88 1/8 mile. Before I bought the 95 Ta my I picked up a 93 LT1 which ultimately lead to me getting the Trans Am. Instead of boarding you guys with the last 15 years of my life I'm back to tinkering on the Third Gen.

My dilemma now is weather to put a 5.3 (which I have) or throw together a mild LT1?

heres the part that has me on the fence. The camaro currently has a LT1 T56 with steel shifter fork and carbon syncros and a MGW shifter, stage 2 spec clutch with an aluminum flywheel.

If I go with the 5.3 I would have to sale my current T56 set for a LS based set up. Or buy the conversion kit $400+ clutch and hydraulics etc.

Then I'd have to mate the Ls harness with the camaro's harness get headers etc.

then I'd need a fuel system that could run the fuel inj and N20.

OR if I go LT1 route I have a few options there.

1. Get a ready to assemble 6" rod decent pistons stock crank mildly ported heads carbed intake and basically use everything off the TBI motor (ign, fuel pump) add a carb and reuse the shorty headers (I know they aren't D port) and should be very minimal cost in this route.

2. Run the LT1 fuel inj with a 4x timing trigger and use a distributed in the rear (no opti) mating a LT1 harness to the camaro's and mess with the fuel system.

Keep in mind my goals for this car are pure street. Little bit of track action little bit of autox and a hole lot of street duty. No cage. Anyway I go it will have a 150 shot on it.

300-350 RWHP NA is my power goal. The car makes 202 RWHP now lol but it's a blast to drive and it's to nice to not get it out.

Lt1 hands down, would be an easier and cheaper route... ls swaps are to common are you end up being like the other 2 million people with a 5.3/6.0 swap... I would do a stock crank, decent rods pistons.. good custom grind cam with a single plane and carb

for your goals, I would say go LT1. It will drop right in where your 305 is now and is perfectly capable of achieving your goal in stock form with a decent cam.

Turbo(s)? Who said anything about turbo(s) lol. Defiantly on the wish list but not going to happen for years.

The TA is still doing well. I actually pulled it out of the garage and gave her a bath today. 75* in December I'll take that.

It's been awhile but I'm making a little progress on the RS. Went with 55 mm turbos, I will keep it around 600 RWHP to try and keep the motor happy.

those truck motors are pretty stout. Hotrod magazine recently did a test where they tried to break what turned out to be a 4.8, made 1200 hp on the stock rotating assembly and ran out of ignition system and dyno time, being unable to cause any problem with the bottom end.

No doubt they can handle a massive amount of power. I'm looking to keep it together and take on 2K mile road trips. I'm not concerned about how much power it will make. I'm just looking for a fun dependable setup.
