obd1 and obd2 help

Well, the tranny took a shit in the firebird last night, what a wonderful birthday present, and I wondering what all year model transmissions i can use as far as electronics go.

I know 94 and 95 is obd1 and 96 and 97 is obd2. Does that mean i can only use those year model trannys or can i switch them?(94 transmission into 97 or vise versa?)

94 will only swap into a 94. I know 96 and 97 are interchangeable, but I'm not sure about the 95. IIRC, you can put a 96-97 in a 95, but not the other way around. OBD version does not matter, its how the PCM controls the shifts. 95-97 use PWM.

Unless you go with a longtail TH350, then it doesnt matter.:)

^^^Thats whats going to happen to the firebird if i can find a trans for the camaro first. Im a tight-wad and refuse to pay 1200 bucks for a stock rebuild, so ive been searching for a good used one.
