I had the coopers on my f350 I loved them would buy another set in a heart beat. My mom has the nittos and hates them she lost 2 mpg after puting them on her 06 z71
Cooper sells those tires under the name hercules same exact tire lower price

if i go with the coopers i'm not worried about the price, are tire supplier downtown hooks us up on the prices.
im kinda leaning more to the Goodyears, thats what i have used in the past but not sure how long they will last.

I have the duratrac right now so far I like them these are my first set I figured I'd give them a go. The best truck tire I've ever had was the general grabber At2 tires they where very well they were quite and they went through everything and they out lasted every tire I've ever owned

I have the Cooper AT/3 and have been happy with them. They make a little noise between 40 an 50 mph but it's not too bad. They do well in the wet and snow.

I would go with the Coopers or Nittos. I hate Good Year tires and will never buy them. I had Hankook Dynapro ATM's on my last truck and loved them.

We sell a lot of the Coopers and have had little complaints, I run them on both of my trucks.

I had those on my truck before the coopers. I agree with chopstick said. However my complaint was the snow balled up on the tire.

My vote would be the Coopers or add the Toyo Open Country AT II to the mix. I have had great luck with them both and we sell alot of them at our shop.

Cooper AT3s on my tow pig, really like them.
Seemed to work well in the snow and wet conditions lately.

I didn't like the Nitto Terra Grappler that much when I had them, I went to the Toyo Open Country M/T 35x12.5x20 and have about 40K miles on them with some life left. With age they did get some road noise to them but not as bad as some cheaper mud tires, great traction and mileage.

Any excessive droning with any of the tires listed? I need some all terrain tires soon but don't want a ton of noise

I was in a lot more rocks/mud/dirt than snow. Snow here is a few inches for a few days....and the BFG's are whisper quiet on the highway

The duratrac tires have a minimal amount so far I thought with the lugs they'd be pretty loud and that was a concern when I was buying them but I am pretty happy with how quiet they are . I'm not familiar with other tires listed .

My exhaust is louder than the tires, and non car people have never mentioned how either the exhaust or tires were "loud"
Coopers here, 285s or something silly cause of the E load.

hmm....from the replies coopers seem to be slightly up....
Coopers- we run them on our Fleet so im real familiar with them. Good wet/snow traction, sub par mud not a good self cleaning tread ($150ish a tire)
Nittos- Zero experience with them, but look as though they would have to same problem with mud as the Coopers ($230 a tire)
Duratrac- more road noise, great snow/wet traction, best of the 3 mud traction ($280 a tire)
i'm going to have to sacrifice on something....
anyone have mud experience with them? and im not talking a wet dirt road...i'll be off road quite a bit in the Black hills hunting/shooting and it can turn to a mud road. but my truck is also my DD and drive to work is 10 miles each way on the highway.

I put tires on my truck in July of this year (00 Sierra 1500 ECSB Z71). After lots of research I went with Firestone Destination A/T's. They are crazy quiet, got me around great through the mud and fields this deer season, and towed my trailer and car to BG without any problems! I went with the 10 ply (E load range). They're the #1 rated light truck tire on tire Rack:http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Destination+A%2FT

The sidewall makes towing feel more stable, the suspension's so soft from the factory I can't even tell a difference from the load range C's that were on it.

I agree. I have 10 ply Mickey Thompson ATZ on my Silverado 1500 and I did not notice a difference in ride quality. It tows better with the E loads and tire wear has been better also.

my F150 came stock with E LR, with the payload/tow packages on trucks nowadays its pretty much the standard LR.

I read through real fast, but I'll second the higher load range recommendations. I've been through a lot of trucks and truck tires. I've run these brands in several different model tires on my trucks over the last 14 years. General, Toyo, BFG, Nitto, Mastercraft, Goodyear, Firestone, Cooper, Maxxis. First thing I can say is go with the highest load range you can. Even on 1/2 to trucks the E range is better in all ways. I get disgusted watching C or worse Passenger tires squashing and flexing under load.
Brands: Goodyear and Cooper. Why? Merica, that's why. [I used to work and live in Akron and my parents are Steelworkers]. Seriously though, they seem to hold up the best in more ways than just thread wear. The seem the most resistant to cupping, cutting/chipping, puncture, etc. I currently run Duratracs on my Ram 2500. I've got to have a tire than I can go remote area hunting, tow 6000lbs of gravel in the bed, or tow a loaded gooseneck 2,000 miles. I've buried my truck in the desert before and there are only a few tires that can help you out of that situation. These have done all that without issue. I've over loaded them many times without issue. They perform well in snow, mud, rain, just about every condition. The best all terrain I've ever had for that truck. On the Tahoe, I run Goodyear Silent Armors. Like I've seen in the past ungrading from a C or D range to a E, the ride stiffens up, but everything else related to tires improves. I'll be taking the Silent Armors off the Tahoe and putting them on a 2500HD next week. They wear slow, are quiet, are great on puncture protection, and handle everything except excessive mud/sand very well.
My go to tire on a 1/2 ton that doesn't see a lot of off-road is the Goodyear Silent Armor Prograde E range. I've run them at work for 4 years and they just do a great job in everything. My dad didn't want to spend that much so I got him into a Mastercraft E range. Not my favorite brand, but I'd rather run a load range E in a lower brand than a load range C in a higher brand. Especially if towing at all. Second behind Goodyear is Cooper, the new ST Maxx is awesome! I could probably talk tires for ever, but I'll back away from the table.
PS: Fook BFG, after their tire de-treaded on the highway at 75mph and smashed up my truck bed and busted a taillight, I'll never give them money again.

I'm a little late to the party, but I currently have a set of the duratracs (285/70/17) on my 03 Avalanche, absolutely love them, 20k miles and have 3/4 or better tread still. They're a load range D, but have the same weight load rating as my dad's 265/70/17 BFG AT E's (which he only got about 42k miles out of on an ext cab 06 1500 z71). I've accidentally gone off into some soft/slick mud, and never had even had a hiccup, they cleaned out easy, didn't have to turn them over hard for them to clean. On road manners aren't bad either, only thing is a little bit of road noise.
I had a set of the dick cepek fc 2's on my 4wd Sonoma, were way better in the mud than the bfg at's, road manners seemed a little bit better too, seemed to wear a bit better too. I had only got 38k out of the bfg's on my Sonoma before they were COMPLETELY worn out. They just do not last anymore, I had a set of traction t/a's put on the wife's grand prix, they had a 80k mile warranty, and were also completely worn out at 38k, I mean fully on the wear bars all the way across the tire, on all four, will never buy bfg again.

apparently I dont know as much as I thought I did about tires. C,D,E rating have nothing more to do with then the amount of plys the tire is constructed out of but is not an indication of actual load capacity. You can actually have a C or D tire that actually has a higher Load rating then an E tire. Tire load rating go from 1 to 150. You can read about it on this link. http://www.edmunds.com/how-to/how-to-read-your-tire.html

I put duratrac's on my truck a few thousand miles ago and love them so far besides the sacrifice in fuel mileage due to the increased weight going to a larger LT tire, but fuel mileage isn't what I was focused on when I bought a 6.2L silverado. I did a lot of research on all the tires you mentioned and went with them because they aren't loud, last a long time, and look the best haha.

I'm going to assume when you say larger tire, you mean taller, now I have never lost fuel mileage going to a size or two larger tire, but I also recalibrated my speedo for the larger tires so that the mileage was accurate, it seems a lot of us forget about that, I have. Taller tire, larger circumference, less revolutions per mile, so when you travel 100 miles, only 94 miles are read, so you went from getting 20mpg, to just under 19. Sometimes it's the really simple things we forget about, we've all done it.

However, when a tire company is trying to avoid warranty stuff and you have a truck that is OE with E rated tires, they will laugh and hang up when you mention a lower class tire on it failed. (even if it was higher rated)
My truck came with some procomp tires and one lost its carcass coming home one day from work. Only reason I tossed that in for thought.

Come on most companies will try and use peoples ignorance as an excuse to avoid paying out for warranties. Perfect example most people dont know there is a federal law stating if u modify your car the car company has to prove it was the modification that caused said failer. Saying it did is not enough to not pay out.

Oh I know, and to be fair the tires were out of warranty and I was not the original buyer but it peeved me that they failed so badly and I never overloaded them.
So, the truck has E rated tires and hopefully never have an issue with em.
