what all do you guys have for heating your garage? i've gone the cheap route the past few times and like most you get what you pay for.

got a couple electric ones, they only help if you are close to it... then got a propane one, works, but you have to be by it, it doesnt have a fan or anything to move the heat so it just a hot object for you to accidentally run your leg into.

i was thinking about getting one of the jet engine looking ones....
i borrowed one from friend, it works well, but could do without the smell and having to have the door cracked so i dont die lol

An 80k btu salander. Burns fuel oil, kerosene, even diesel if you need heat at 2am.

How big of a garage, and how well insluated is it? ie attached steel, wood, etc? I've had good luck with electric to suppliment the heat from the house (mine is an attached 2 car).

mines an attached 2 car as well. its insulated fairly well since above the garage are the bed rooms. i insulated the door as well.

i was looking at some of those electric heaters that you actually mount on the wall. says they can keep 500 sq toasty.

A friend of mine uses a small wood stove. Once the fires is hot he turns on a valve that feeds it by dripping used motor oil which splashes onto a ball hitch inside so it spatters to burn better.

I've been looking at them ceiling mount forced air units for years they use to sell them at Lowes but I didn't see them the other day I think they were like $400. I think that's what I'm doing for next year.

Mines a 1970s pole barn. Steel, no insulation, nothing, just steel walls. It keeps up ok. Was -1 today here, 50* inside after 30 mins

I heat my 30x40x12 insulated pole barn with an oil fired unit that hangs from the ceiling. It is approx 85k but and does a great job. We went to gas in our house so I moved the 275 gal oil tank to my barn and the unit I have barley uses any oil and I usually like it around 67-70 degrees in there.

Last year I bought a King 220 Volt electric heater to use in the downstairs of my 24x32 barn w/R-19 in the walls and three insulated bay doors. It does okay, but you do need to run it for a while in advance and it works best if I section an area off with plastic so the rear bay w/12' ceiling is not sucking the heat up above where I am.

A month or so ago, I took a 1960s vintage Knipco 75k BTU kerosene torpedo heater that my dad bought new. Hadn't been run in decades. I went through it to freshen it up, put on a new cord etc. I'm running diesel in it. It does give off a slight odor, but works really well. I love the thing, and it scares me a lot less than propane.

Works good also have wood stove but don't use it. Too easy to just turn up thermostat on the other. I also keep it set to 40 when not in there to keep it from freezing.

I have a modine hot water coil with fan hooked to its own zone on my boiler, own stat and all. Garage is 65 all the time. I guess it pays to be a hvac tech and get stuff for free.
