Mickey Thompson or Hoosier Drag Radials?

Looking to get a new set of drag radials for next season. I have Mickey Thompson DR's now and they have been great but was thinking of trying a pair of Hoosier's. Now I've read all over the place about both with cars that are really fast but not much for a car like mine. Has anyone ever had experience with both and was it positive or negative? I don't care about how they are on the street because the only time they see street use is when I swap out the street tires and drive to the track.

275/50/15, I talked to MT rep at SEMA about those tires and said I'd be better off with the ET Street radial. I guess I was most likely looking at the Hoosiers because they a bunch of potatoes lighter on the scale. I've always run the MT DR's.

Ahh ok, the pro is a 28" and your on a 26" so that will make a difference. As for which is better, like you I've heard good about both but never seen the two tested on the same car.

kind of related question.... are the radials as good as the bias ply tires now? i havent bought any drag tires in many years... when i did it was just nitto and bfg for dragradials and they couldnt compare to et streets or hoosier bias ply tires.

I have ran both on my bolt-on car and can't say I noticed much of a difference with the two, other that the Mickeys were a decent amount heavier than the Hoosiers. I am thinking of buying another set of Hoosiers and doing a back to back test because I switched one winter along with some other changes. So I did not get to see what the tire alone changed.

Depends on your setup, radials have come a long way since the late 90's-early 00's when BFG's and Nitto's were it!

For an auto car they can't be beat. I tried bias plys back to back one day at the track. The bias would 60 slightly better but the car suffered after that. With bias I had to kinda pay attention a little more on top end because the car was a bit more squirrely where the radials I can hold on with one hand and enjoy the view around me.

i bought some hoosiers after going through a few sets of MT's i'll let you know how they work. from what O have read. Hoosiers are lighter but wear faster. MT's heavier but last longer esp if u do a lot of street cruising.

I will be buying Hoosiers for next season. Not worried about street use since I have a set of street tires I put on when not racing. The only street use they see is driving back and forth to the track which 30 minutes away. Look forward to your feedback.

I used the 275/40/17 M/T Drag Radials and loved them.

18 psi on stock suspension (stock control arms, stock TQ arm, stock shocks, etc) with Yank converter and got 1.60-1.63 60 fts.

I never used the Hoosier so I can't compare but I did like the M/T's.

I want to add this for people with old MT radials. I didn't want to spend the money this season on new tires because the old MT's still had some tread left. What I've been doing all season is spraying them with WD-40 everyday for a week before a race and they have been doing great. 60ft times have still been consistent but it does wear them down faster. I didn't care because I was planning on new tires as soon as these were done. I would NOT recommend doing it to new tires though. Mine are now four years old.

I'm not on here much but I have had both radial tires 315/35 et street and currently 335/35 Hoosier. I had good luck with both. Seemed to get a few more passes out of the ets but the Hoosiers have done a little better traction wise on my setup. I just posted a 1/8th mile pass on them in the drag racing section. I have only made one 1/4 pass on them and the car went 11.7@118 na

On a stick car I have used the MT and then went with the Hoosier Quick Time Pro, (Bias Ply) and i can tell you they hook like a slick, I never could get the MT's to hook like that...but Im sure there is a lot to the equation, horsepower, suspension, A4 or M6 ect..

I've had Hoosier QTP's, M/T ET Street and ET Drag all bias plys with tubes. My car likes the stiff sidewall ET Drag best (but it's an M6). For an auto car there's several options. We sell both brands and would be happy to give you a price quote if you like.
