Recently, the vette has not been up to par. Started smoking under heavy throttle, and sometimes just during start up.

Idle was always good when started, but soon as it went into closed loop, the car would just begin surging.....

soooooooo

I sent the vette out for a full tune up...and to correct some issues.

I got this message...

" Hey Larry...Fuel is coming out of the fuel regulator vacuum port. We ordered a repair it and should be in tomorrow. "

Im guessing this is part of my overly rich exhaust smell, and for those that have seen the vids of recent quarter mile passes.... the crazy "fuel" smoke that pours out...

That vacuum port should have just been sucking that fuel down into the intake and you would've been running rich. I believe that is all...

ok...that would explain all the fuel pouring out of the exhaust that reeked of gas at the track?

This. You might pick up a little bit too with proper fuel pressure now.

Well, after a full tune up.. that thing above replaced.... a new cap and rotor... o2 sensor and other odds and ends, Im being told it runs better than it did before.

I cant wait to make some CRISP air passes at the track!

Well, I picked it up today... $800.00 later she runs awesome (I left the work order outside, but Ill snap a pic and post all the stuff that was done).

No smoke

No surging

Pulls great (for a 14 second car, lol)

Aha, so this pretty much confirms what I was going to attempt next on ours. Needs a new valve cover gasket set (leaking) and looks like FPR too then. Thanks for posting this up!

No problem.. I should also mention...after the FPR was replaced I was advised that fp was through the roof (in excess of 55psi). Said it was smoking like crazy....so now that its been returned to spec, no smoke issue either. IDK if a previous owner increased fp to compensate for the fpr issue, or if its coincidence.

Also, there is no longer a hard start issue with the car after the first start of the day.

ONE thing I always noticed about my surging issue... is that it did not happen when the car was started.... it was only after about 30-60 seconds of idleing (switching from open to closed loop) that it would start surging. That is why I had suspicions of the 02 sensors. I cant even tell if the SES light is still on, because I covered it with the evil opti sticker I had. lol

Hmm, see ours does the same surging issue once warmed up - on cold start, it's fine. I already replaced the front 2 O2 sensors, figured the rear O2 didn't matter really so I left it alone. It's not throwing as SES light, although maybe I should check it again for a hidden code just in case.

ignore my ses light...idk what its for... simply focus on when the issue starts and what is changing at that point. Fornme it was clear it was an open to closed loop issue

Been driving it all week... The thing is even better and more fun to drive.

And with 137 miles of driving...the fuel guage is still just under FULL.

So was just checking the TRIP on the vette, and I have an extra 56 miles on the tank and its still reads 1/4 left. Must have really been wasting alot of fuel before.

Cant wait to get it on the dyno again.
