not sure if this would be the right place for this thread, but I am looking for heat extraction ideas. I just got heat wrap for all the wiring under the hood and fuel lines because everytime I drive and pop the hood it smells like burning plastic. I have checked everything and nothing is close to the headers or melting. I know the wires will be safe, but having all that heat trapped in the engine compartment is horrible. Any ideas of how to help some of that heat escape?

(This started after I lowered the car.)

Just out of curiosity, do you still have your air dam installed below the radiator?

would turning the "scoops" on the hood into a sort of breather help?

Heat extraction is pretty limited right now for our cars. Only real ideas I can come up with is

Wrap your headers, and use ceramic coat spray from Eastwood that you spray the inside of your headers with.

Open the holes on the front bumper, and clear out some of the foam bumper support. Or get a tubular bumper support.

I will prolly wrap the headers when I buy my new ones. I didnt even think about the holes on the front bumper, thats a great idea. I think that along with opening the "scoops" on the hood should help alot. yay next project haha

how hard is it to remove the plastic from the holes in the bumper?

Its a easy job. Simple cut job with a dremel.

You can pickup a black&decker one for about 16.00 at Walmart. Its the one I use to cut my CF parts. Cheap and last a long time

I know some people don't agree with safety, but depending on your state and having inspections, I don't have any bumper support. Save weight, open up space for air, and its FREEEEE! haha. My car is also not my daily and gets 2000 ish miles a year on it...

Making you silky smooth...

haha spending the last 7 years as a MP makes me want to keep my bumper support. I live in Florida so I dont have to worry about inspections. I havnt had cats on my car since 08 haha. I took off that little weather trim near the windshield wipers. That made a good bit of difference

TubbyZ28 said pull the rubber cowl seal strip...this is an old school trick that I have done for years...even on daily drivers, and what little bit of rain might get onto the motor not noticeable. You will be amazed how much heat will be pulled out of the engine bay in just pulling this seal! I have always felt those fake vents should be open. I won't be driving my Z in weather so doing this mod if I can do it clean and right might just materialize down the road.

I dremel'd the vents out along with the strip an my whole top end would be cool to the touch, drove it rain or shine snow or sleet :) it worked well. Just be more careful when washing your car thats all
