Can some one with a dovetail take some measurements for me? With your trailer fairly level measure the clearance from the bottom of the dovetail to the ground and the length of the dovetail. I am adding one to my trailer.

I just built a dove tail trailer. Adding a dove is really not recommend to an existing trailer. But when I did mine the trailer was upside and all I did was bring the back 5" inches higher.

Dont take this to be snotty or anything but i know my way around welding and have all the equipment. How long did you make your dovetail?
Anybody with a factory made one want to chime in?

Its a 16' trailer. The last two feet are the dove tail.

I know my dads factory one was right about 2.5-3 ft. Not positive on numbers and he doesn't have it anymore.

16' + 2' dovetail, and the dovetail clearance MIGHT be 10-12".

I have a PJ 518D trailer, it's 18' overall with a 4' dovetail. I'll try and get some measurements for you by tonight. Tire size is 205/75-15 FYI.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I took some preliminary measurements and i believe i am making it 3ft long and going with a 5 inch drop as mentioned earlier. Just want to be sure of the ground clearance.

I took measurements from the top of the deck since the thickness of maerials can varry but I can get bottom measurements if you need. Mine sets 22" at the flat bed and 18" at the back of the dovetail so 4" of drop over 4'.
