View Full Version : What should I do?

I'm sure many of you have picked up that I am IN LOVE with the new "LT1" c7.... and I WILL have one.

It will not happen until after our 10/2014 Wedding, but it WILL happen.

Now, here is the dilema... I have a 2 car garage, and 2 many cars......

So vote above on what you think I should do... because I am thinking of liquidating vehicles....

-The corvette is already for sale... I dont mind all but giving that away, so that is not an issue.

HERE is the issue.... what to do with the camaro...I have had a serious offer on the car (member of the site here) and am considering selling it, ONLY because it would stay in the "family."

I fear that I wont drive it, and it will just sit once the vette comes in, and that would chew me up as well....not to mention, financing a car that will be close to 50k will not leave alot of $$$ love for the camaro if it were to break...

Im not opposed to keeping the camaro, as it is hard for me to even discuss selling it, however I wanted to get the opinions of others here (outside of here, people just say sell the camaro), where people actually appreciate our old beasts.

soooooo do I ;

A: have my garage ceiling raised, and put a lift in the garage to fit 3 cars in there?

B: sell the camaro and focus on the new "LT1."

It's hard to say at this point in time, really. As mentioned in the other thread, the aftermarket for the new LT1 is still in the fetus stage. There's potential for it to boom, but to start out, you're looking at a stock car. Granted, that stock car has plenty of power to have fun with to start out. I do understand where you're coming from on the point of having the Camaro + Corvette and not driving one or the other very much. For the most part, it sounds like you already have no intention of ever beating on the Camaro just based on how much you have into it already. As much as I'd love to see you keep the Camaro AND have the C7, financially and logically it just makes more sense to go with one or the other. If you do have a serious offer that will get you a good value back out of the Camaro to then apply to the new C7, which will be covered under warranty for X-amount of time and such, I personally would go for that deal if you're absolutely for sure going to buy the C7. You can have fun ragging on it and beating on it and when shit breaks, get it fixed under warranty for minimal cost and go back to ragging on it and enjoying it to the full extent. At the same time, whoever buys the Camaro can enjoy a very well built 600 HP car that they can choose to cruise in, race, beat on, whatever it is that suits them - and it's not your problem if/when it breaks. Once the aftermarket for the new LT1 starts growing, you can then build up the new one however you like and be our leading man on the new LT1 tech. :)

TL,DR: As much as we all love your Camaro, it just LOGICALLY makes more sense to have one or the other. Either way, you're in an LT1 and the head of the family.

(This is merely what I would do if I were in your position, so I hope you don't take it as me telling you what to do with your car lol.)

Thanku...I appreciate that...and u are correct I WILL flog the vette way more than I ever will the camaro.....

And as far as I can see my only real plans for it will be tint...wheels...maybe exhaust...maybe CAI.

but for the most part COSMETIC...

Sounds good, definitely have to at least do the bolt on stuff, if nothing else lol. Headers, exhaust, CAI, and once they figure out how to tune more power out of it, that, too. ;)

Everyone I know who pours blood, sweat, tears into a muscle car and sells it, ALWAYS ends up regretting it down the road. The sentimental value sets in and I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I should have never sold that car". My Camaro will never be sold, too many memories, when it dies I'll put it in a shoebox and bury it in the yard under a tree.

^ And there is that aspect of it, too. It might be worth it to keep the Camaro and buy the C7 and drive it for a while and see if it's REALLY what you want to change to. That should give you a bit of transition time to really feel out if you'll regret selling the Camaro or not. Once you make your decision as to whether or not you'll hate yourself for getting rid of it, then sell/keep the Camaro.

I def know that feeling. I still miss my old 92 bird...sold with 198k on it.....ran like a champ.

But in the end, I bought the camaro years later, and sank more money..more effort... more time into it, and the old bird is a fond memory....

Does it make a difference that the person who is interested in the camaro made me the offer that if I he ever wanted to get rid of it, I would have a grace period to decide if I wanted it back before it ever went on the market?

That's definitely nice of him and a plus. How long of a grace period is he talking about giving you? And I assume he'd give it back for the amount he paid you for it, not go asking for more.

Sounds like plenty of time to make sure you do/don't miss it. I was missing mine after just a month of not driving it lol. 6 months is plenty to find out if you miss it or not.

Popo8, fix the garage, beat the snot out the Camaro for 3-5 yrs and then do a new LT1 swap. By then, a crate motor should be in the 10K range easy AND you'll have the garage space. I know that's what I'm gonna do once I get the current motor back up and running. Then it'll still be a LT1 LOL!!!

Lol.... I think I would just rather the entire package though, with all the bells and whistles as well....so that I can hop in and drive all the time...... You know, the reliability of a new car with a warranty feeling...yet its a fun car, not a caravan. lol

Im not opposed to keeping the camaro.. I love the car. Thrashing on it however means that It may break...and I will be 100% honest... Im not fixing anything catastrophic that breaks on it.... so that means if it happens, Im left with a car that will be parted out, or sold cheap, BROKEN.

Just go to the house and saw this thread... With ALL the above information, I personally would keep it even when I got my (the gf's) C7. Then I have my Shootout car and something with plenty of power when she won't let me take the C7 out. :D

That being said, I honestly think your time for it will drastically drop over the next few years. Marriage, C7, maybe kid(s), Chief of Police desk, etc. And a buyer in the "family" that would give you dibs if it went back for sale sounds pretty sweet. The DB that bought my WS6 wanted to charge me 2k more than the deal I gave him when I sold it.

You can break anything thrashing on it, including a new car. You can rest assured that the new C7 will have an expensive weak link somewhere (all factory cars do) even at modest (under 550 or so rwhp) power levels.
Not sure why you're so opposed to thrashing on the Camaro and maybe having to fix something every now and then. That is just part of having a street/strip car that has been hot rodded to that extent. Either way it's much cheaper than a payment on a $60k car. However, if a heavily modified hot rod is not what you want, then yea you should probably get rid of it and get into something else. Highly modified hot rods can be very frustrating when they aern't running correctly and always breaking. By the tone of a few of your posts, you seem to spend a whole lot more time worrying about that thing than enjoying it.

If it were me, I'd enjoy the Camaro, race it, cruise it and drive the snot out of it (and maybe have to fix a few breakages along the way), and wait a few years until the C7 comes down in price a bit and pick up a clean, lighly used example for much less outlay. But I'm a cheap tightwad when it comes to cars, that's why my toy is a 16 year old LT1 f-body put together with parts I searched out at bargain prices in the first place.

However, I can't imagine what is going to break on your Camaro next. It has a 9 inch, fully built driveline and nice shortblock right? I think I recall your build and tuning process was fraught with issues on that car but I wouldn't let it discourage you at this point now that it's running right.

In the end it all comes down to what you want. If the car has a lot of sentimental value, then you should likely keep it. Then again, if you're one of those people who trade cars every few years and don't really worry about that aspect, then you may very well have more fun in that C7 and never look back at an old overpowered f-body.

How big is your backyard? Does the back of your garage lead into your house? If it is laid out like I think it is, you could remodel the garage to have a door leading into your backyard. If space permits, build an additional garage towards the back of your property line. Or just drive around the house if you have the room on the side.

I voted get rid of it - but that's assuming there's not sentimental value. New technology is just a better idea IMHO.

I thought about an additional garage out back.... even re doing the deck with the additional garage being the foundation.

And no...my garage runs into the family room.

The only way I was able to let go of my 94 Z28 was by getting another car.

I know that if I ever want to redo a camaro in the future I'll be able to pick up a old V6 and redo it like I want.

I had two camaros, two race cars, two trucks, and a Passat, I'm trying to get down my collection of cars as well.

They said a similar thing when the 2010 Camaro came out. They will probably do their "allocation" thing. I live 10 minutes from Basil Chevrolet and Paddock Chevrolet. At certain times of the year the 2 of them will be fighting for the #1 volume dealer in the nation. GM allocations don't apply to dealers like that. When the 2010 Camaro's first came out, every dealer was allocated 2. Dealers were marking them up, because they knew they might not be getting any more for a while. I went down to Paddock and shot a small video, and they had 25 of them on their main lot, and another 10-15 in one of their storage lots. Last week I went to Basil and they had the yellow one, that I took a pic of (and sent to POPO), and they had a black one. The yellow one already had plates on it, not sure about the black one.
