Hmmmm put in a Chisel air/water... th400... c16.... and a new 115mm exile ultra light turbo and you should kick ass in true street  lol... You have a nice car Ryan, an auto definitely will help that car shine at the track with the power your making.

Guy I know sent me some shims, should be here soon.

Been thinking about going to the pull a part here. Can walk out with a 4l80e for under $100 if I pull it myself! Might get one, grab a stock shifter, and toss it in. If I like it, build it. If not resell it.

nice build. hows that cam treating you? i have a similar one ready to go into my engine but i'm having a little buyers remorse, feel like its too small... granted i'm running less cubes then you, mines a 355.

Ryan Stout
09-30-2013, 01:51 PM
It idles smooth, drives very nice. Honestly, a beginner could drive this car if it weren't faceplated. Cam is nice and tame but it makes power to 6500 easily. If you're wanting to drive the car, its a good choice imo

Lol that's awesome. In all seriousness, i actually bent my seatpan at the shootout on the second pass about half track when it hooked, but I'm 325#. It now sits about 3" back further than the passenger side. To reinforce them I'm going to drill out the old seat studs, add an 1/8" plate where the seats bolt to the pan on the bottom of the car. Drill the plate for new hardware and tack the head of the bolt to the bottom of the plate. Then use some light 1/2" square tubing to tie into the frame.

Ginf=find.

So I'm considering a winter project. De-mod the car!

Put power steering back on and giving her some DD ZR1s again. Tired of never driving it because its a PITA. So my manual rack (now a 100% bolt in) and wheels may hit the classifieds in a while.

Also have another idea but won't even open that can of worms until I do it. Its time I enjoy the car, not let it sit.

How about skinnies that are not AS skinny. Keep the look, yet more contact patch?

shownomercy
11-12-2013, 07:33 PM
There are no skinny tires rated for the full front weight of a LT1 car, then toss on a front mount turbo kit and yea, not many tires will satisfy the weight requirements.

Just run a light wheel, and deal with the heavier (albeit safer) tire. I know my OEM ZR1 rims weigh next to nothing and a 275 tire isn't half bad at hooking decent.

T56 is sold. Guy offered a good chunk for it. Looking for a 400. Might've found a lightly used Rossler 400. Also found a killer deal on a converter locally (3400 stall Bradco, was in a 101mm car so i'll be fine). U know its no custom pte but its $700 less and from a good known source. Tryin to do this within my budget of selin t56.

most have a hurst, b&m, or a cheetah one.. I have a pistol grip quarter stick hurst in mine, fits fine and works great. is the trans your getting a full reverse manual valve body with a brake? and don't expect that converter to be spot on with your set up, it'll probably be to tight If it was set up for a lot higher hp car. might want to send it out and have someone go threw it and set it up according to your set up so you don't have to pull it 2 or 3 times to get it spot on, Lenny at ultimate does good work

Ryan Stout
11-25-2013, 08:48 AM
Yea its gonna be a rmvb and a brake. Any reason you picked a quarter stick? Everyone likes what they have but nobody can tell me why lol.

Yea I expect it to be a tad tight. I figure buying a used-but-good kickass converter and having it restalled is cheaper than buying a $1200 new one lol. Depending on how much a driveshaft and whatnot is I may have to keep it.

$3400 budget and I need a trans, shifter, driveshaft/yoke. Got everything else so far.

Ryan, I have a th350 in the Monte and I hate it. 3000 cruise rpm with 3.73 gears and 26" tire. I just bought an 80e. Going with the popular hd2 kit to bring it up to 750hp capable. Only downside I see to these (other than the additional weight, which I think will be shed in the aftermarket converter) is the price of available quality converters.

TH400-$2250
4L80e-$2700

Both include shipping and stuff to make my speedo work. The 80 can use my driveshaft and a stock shifter (saves about $550), the converter is $850.

TH400 is gonna need a driveshaft, and shifter but my buddy has a converter for it.

Decisions decisions...

Well, thanks to you guys I just ordered a 4l80e from Jake. Level 3 with a D1 RMVB and brake. Gonna call FTI for a converter, got a sale for $750. Just bought a cooler today.

And a flexplate, don't forget that.

IMO, I would get a 168 tooth one with dual bolt patterns for the 80e converter (it will have both). You will just need an aftermarket starter for the 168 tooth plate.

I run the lokar dipstick, only complaint is once you add fluid it takes awhile to be able to then read anything off the dipstick cause the tube is small.

Cross member too? And if you are doing a 80e segment swap you need a new ISS/VSS plug etc, and rearrange the main trans plug wires at PCM. Simple stuff.

Ryan Stout
11-25-2013, 06:05 PM
Ahh yea forgot lol. Found a local one. Will a converter not bolt up to a 153? I'm getting a billet FTI.

I was gonna call madman on the dipstick, bent tube.

Gonna mod my t56 crossmember

RMVB, no auto control.

Wait, why would you buy a auto OD trans and then leave out OD lockup...? You cray cray.

And no, the FTI will bolt up to the smaller 153 tooth pattern but I sheered those three bolts and you prob may be making more power than I am. So food for thought.

You mean stock 80e converter right? 80e is 11.5 diameter and 60e is 10.75

The FTI will have the 60e and 80e pattern but with little cuts so the 80e feet fit over the small flexplate.

Otherwise, like I said you step up to the 168 tooth flexplate and you can bolt both patterns up.

Sad how much I know on a useless topic.

Certainly not a useless topic. I still think what's needed in the 80e swap is not fully understood. I know I don't fully understand. A few of you guys that have done it should start a FAQ 80e swap thread. Put some how to's, what ifs, etc in it.

Easy really. Had to modify the steering shaft and supposed to weld a bracket to your frame. I didn't weld it and it un-pressed itself. I made some brackets to hold itself to its own brackets so it is now a true bolt in. Only permanent mod now is that you have to drill your spindles out for the bump steer kit.

The front hub is my concern also. At a minimum I could mount it like mine is with the supercharger pulley inline with the stock accessories. The scoop of the hood seems to be in transition at that spot. Maybe a standard cowl would give a little more room in that area.
