Now that this engine is finished and running strong. I'm prepping to move to an LS based build. I have quite a few deals for 6.0's and will be looking at doing a 408. Probably another year or more until it's done. One kid in college and Motocross & 3 bikes takes alot of the income.

But for the time being, I'm still LTx. Plans are to just bag up the original engine and crate it over in a corner. Maybe build up 2 platforms (pcm, wiring, etc) and be able to run LTx shootout one weekend then LSx shootout the next. At least that's my plan.

That would actually be a pretty cool setup in my book. 2 complete swappable setups to go to both Shootouts and have fun, sounds like a plan! Good luck

AGREED... cost vs effort would be a no brainer.

^ Agreed with the above, unless you're just really into practicing engine swaps for the hell of it.

Another Impala = $7-8,000 for a nice one
Or $4,000 for a decent one needing interior work (most is discontinued and hard to find) then $4,000 for new paint.
New trans w/ conv. = $4000
new Driveshaft = $350
Built rearend = $800
Full suspension mods $1000
LS swap and all components including 408 build, headers, wiring harness, etc = $10,000

I think I'll stick with a 4-5 hour engine swap.

One kid in college and Motocross & 3 bikes takes alot of the income. You can actually still afford to race motocross now that bikes are $10k? You must be ballin!

Cool idea but go to the Impala forum and look up the LS swap threads. The fastest LS based Impala is running high 10's. and that is on a blower (procharged) setup. I believe an F1A. These heavy cars need low end grunt that the ls based engines do not have. I'm not downing a LS based motor but they have never seemed to worked well in the Impala.

Popo, this is an Impala. LOTSA room in there. Besides, I can have my motor out in about an hour.

Frank, HP is too easy using LS based. my 383 with the cam specs I got barely reach 400rwhp. A friends stock bore/stroke 6.0 with about the same grind and untouched heads is making 450 rwhp. Don't get me wrong, I love this tq I have now. But I'm sure Cam-motion can do me right again.

Also this is only to be a streetcar built for weekend fun, cruises and DD on nice days. It's the wifes car and 11's in an uncaged car is good enough to have fun with.

BLK95-
We run strictly 2 strokes. KX85, 125 & 250. My full rebuild cost as much a topend on a 4T. It's the traveling and Fees that cost the money. Especially now that alot of the tracks around L-ville are closing. High Fly closed, Podium1, no more series, Ballance..closing, Nickota 2 1/2 hrs, Boone 3 1/2 hrs, and all other tracks in Ky are 3 hrs or more away. Makes for a $hitty Sunday race getting back at midnight sometimes.
