Ok here's my question my Cusin has a turbo 96 Impala with twin in tank pumps walbro i beileve when he stops it it will fall on it's ass like it's running out of fuel we were thinking that one of his pumps may have died i was wondering if there's a good way to test for that ? Im not sure what the pressure should be on something like that?

Typically only one pump will be running unless he's above a certain boost point. Fuel pressure should still be the same base 43.5 PSI rating. What's his fuel level like when he's experiencing the stopping issues? My guess would be that he's low enough of fuel that when stopping the fuel slosh is exposing the active pump pickup and it's pulling air into the system.

Is it everytime he stops?

Like Sean said....maybe fuel is low... Top off the tanks and try again.

It was at a full tank on the way to Woodward dream cruise we were playing with a C6 vette it was acting sorta intermittent now it's consistently bad every time he stops it. Hell it could be be something elts he's struggled with keeping this car running right there's no engine light he installed new O2s and a new opti , plugs and wires they helped but the problem still exists .

Im currently chasing a similar issue in my dual set up..so Im not the best source of info...lol

I also noticed that priming my set up when I go KEY ON...is a clear indicator that the pumps are not happy...because they sound (I say they...but it could be one or the other...) unhealthy.

Ya know i haven't had a chance to listen to his pumps to here if they sound angry i know the sound though I'll have him key it up for me

Is it a lonnies dual tank set up? Or home made?

A thread worthy of reading for those using lonnies dual pump setup.

I made my setup, but I can unplug mine one at a time at the fuel cap, and listen to them individually. Just staryed doing this or has the whole time he's had duals with his turbo?

Making you silky smooth...

It started last summer at random and it's just gotten worse with time . He's had the pumps for probably 4 years or so the turbo and stroker, pumps and everything were installed at the same time.

I am not sure if it's a lonnies kit or if the speed shop made there own he did have a build sheet with everything they did but he lost it when he moved , i do remember a few things they did and the shop is under new ownership so they couldn't help.

Mine did the same thing starting last may... Occassional sputtering on a long drive home evrytime I asked to boost....

Then cooler weather...or a swap between pumps would buy ,some more time....

Then a month or so ago...on my way to a car show...it actually stalled.

Cooling off...or swapping pumps would get me where I was going...but clearly she is not right.

Out of curiosity.... Does he run an AF guage and has he noticed Amy weird readngs?

This is why I run an A1000. I didn't want to worry about one pump not running.

Do 2 intank pumps usually have this trouble?

Understood, but I have a truck and trailer in the drive for that.

Was just wondering if this was common with twin pumps as I've never delt with them.

No AF gage i wish he did have one, i looked at his plugs they looked slightly white but they still had some brown but im no plug reader . I suppose worst case he could take it back to the speed shop .

I'm no expert and have never ran dual pumps but i recently had kinda the opposite issue of Popo. When my truck was cool (sitting overnite for example) it wouldn't start. After I got it started and ran for a hit it would start easily. Turned out to be a power issue to the relay. Just wondering if maybe your getting a voltage drop issue that's causing the pumps to act up? Just a thought although I may be totally off base.

Well he still has under drive pullys and his battery light has been known to come on at wide open throttle every once in a wile .

Maybe his alternator is starting to go and the pump is just the strongest drain so its most noticeable. I know under drive pulleys are a huge setback for the electrical system, especially when they have a higher demand and some age on them.

He ordered a new alternator and he us going to remove the under drive pullys so we'll see if that helps

My twin wallys never skipped a beat. Fwiw the guy at walbro told me the biggest reason they see pump failures is a clogged fuel filter, and junk in the tank getting into the pump. Those little pumps spin very fast with little plastic gears and the smallest piece of crap can mess one up. This is just what I was told by one of the engineers at walbro

Well he pulled 5 pounds of boost and it's smooth so im thanking it's most likely a fuel issue he's talking about just replacing the pumps and hoping for the best plus he'll know for sure what's in there .

He pulled it apart and found a single walbro pump, he was pretty mad he was in a rush so he just replaced it with another , he Wants more boost so he's gonna add a inline pump to help her out . So as of now most of the big issues are fixed and it's running pretty good .
