I've been looking for some stroker kits and I want to know what exactly what they come with and do I know you change pistons and rods I think but I haven't really started really lookin into it till today and would It work with the cc503 I bought because I still need pushrods an springs for that so if anyone has a link that will help me out and also which is better a 383 or 355 and what's the difference between the two?

A 355 is built using a block that has been bored 0.030" over stock (4.000" -> 4.030"), and the stock (3.48") stroke crank (or aftermarket upgrade). The 383 is the block bored the same 0.030" over, plus a new crankshaft with a 3.75" stroke.

A 383 will favor low end torque more then a 355. But a 355 can be quicker on the revs. With better high rpm handling. Due to less rotational strain (unless you go light wieght components on the 383)

So which is the most preferred route the guy I'm buying the camaro from says the cam is preferred for a stroker kit

It really depends on what you want to do with the car. the 503 is a good shelf grind, but in my personal opinion it is a bit undersized for a stroker engine. the cc603 is generally regarded as the largest cam you can run on stock untouched heads. Also alot depends on your budget as well, as the 383 requires clearencing of the oil pan rails to compensate for the extra 1/4 inch of stroke, not to mention you are buying a complete new rotating assembly instead of just buying .030 pistons.

The only reason I'm going 383 for my build is because the exhaust gas volume of the 383 more closely matches what I need for the turbos I am using need to be in the fat spot of their efficiency range as far as airflow they can provide at the rpm I intend to shift at (7k)

The 503 may not be going in once I get the other car ill post up the cam specs on it

If you decide against the 503 pm me ill take it.

Back on topic, a 355 or a 383 will both be plenty fun on the street. Me personally, im building a high rev 355, built bottom end and good heads, and will be going with a custom cam. For a 355 a stock crank is plenty strong

my theory on choosing a 355 vs 383 is more just on cost. 355 can be done with a budget since you can reuse the crank and rods. 383 cost will go up since you need crank, rods and pistons, plus some block work for clearance.

personally i'd do a 355 if your on a budget and want some better pistons for spray or boost or just need a rebuild anyway. if you are not needing any of those then just stick with your stock engine with heads and cam.

if your budget allows 383 would be better.
regarding rpm my theory on that is 383 will more than handle the revs a stock lt1 computer/hydralic valve train can handle.

I agree with blkchevyz. Stick with a 355 and put the money into bullet proofing the bottomend and good heads and custom cam. 383 works great in my case since the car is 4200#. But for an F-body, a 355 will do whatever you want without the added rotational mass and added machinework involved.

Besides, either way, You'd still need to custom order a cam due to a stroker needing a .100" smaller base circle to clear the rods....99% of the time., Then .100" longer pushrods.

I don't really plan on boost or spray but I want it to be a option at some point in the future can the 355 handle spray?

I have built a few 6" rod 355's for guys using the cc503 cam. It's a great combo if you use the stock heads because the car is still very driveable and then capable of 12's in the 1/4 without nitrous. Plus, it makes a quick revving, fun, and efficient street motor. On one of the cars, we installed a set of AI ported heads with the cc503 and the car picked up about 30 rwhp, but when we swapped to a bigger cam, he got another 25 rwhp on top of that.

Short story... I would stick with a 355. Use the stock crank with good rods and pistons. 6" rods are not a requirement, just something I do in my motors for a little less rotating weight. Then, choose good, ported, stock heads since you will get a great head for not a mountain of money. Finally, choose a cam that will perform well with your heads on the street if that's what the car does 95% of the time. You will be much happier than if you put in a big lopey cam that makes the car hard to drive.

Thanks for that ill probably go that route at some point once I get this other camaro since that will be mainly a track car that will be on the street sometimes
