Car is a rocket. But she's swerving all over the track past the 1/8. Got 14x6 radials on the front. 15x8 slick on te back. 40psi in front. 18 in rear. Anything to fix this before I die?

If its sticking...and ur suspension is not broken amd everything is right...

Add some air...but u may compromise traction.

Just do a once over of ur suspension....dep on how much movement ur getting i wpuld be concerned with something having failed...

She's breaking traction way out. The track is slick. A few more passes and I got scared lol. She's getting squiggly! Before the 1/8 and I'm shutting down.

You're running a bias ply in the rear and a non bias ply up front. You're going to wander like crazy. Been there done that. Its unnerving for sure. Get some bias ply front runners up there and it'll calm down. Same thing happened to me.....MT ET Streets in back, 275/40-17 Firehawk tires up front and it was everywhere. Put on 26x7.5x15 MT Frontrunners on 15x4 wheels, all was well.

I didn't get a full pass :( but she's running good. When I let off the gas she wonders real bad.

Fastbird, I'd say you're right. Thank you!!

I've heard this before and it makes sense. But some other guys I talked to just can't figure it out.

Before I go and spend alot of money, is there anything else this could be?

One of my slicks is better than the other.

Flaming River manual rack!

Bmr k member and a arms.

Strange SA shocks up front.

Alot of weight reduction.

Body mount torque arm.

Not sure i know of anything else.

Street radials on front and 26" slicks on the rear.

A couple things.
How much power?
What size front tire?
Most of the time radials and slicks is a no go. We have ran 165/15 radials with slicks at 140+ with no problems. Bigger radials may cause major handling issues.
18 psi sounds a bit high imo. Have you looked at the tire surface to see if its using the center of the tire more than the edges?
To low on the psi will also handling problems like your describing.
Have you verified you tire gauge against a known gauge? It could be way off from what it showing.
When was the last time you had a alignment done?
what was it set to?
I use factory camber settings, zero toe at +2" ride height and 6* to 6.5* of caster.

Air gauge is correct. 205/70/14s on the front. Alignment was done back in October. Car may have 1000 miles since then. HP is near 450 at the wheels. Weight is probe around 3200 with me I hope.

I'm not sure on the slicks. The track was dead. We were being rushed to get some passes in. An our crew was thin. Just three of us each with a car. I had the guys working the lanes trying to help best they could.

It was described on another forum " it feels like driving and getting caught in a rut". The car will track weird. .

mine used to start swaying at about the 1/8miles and would gradualy get worse the faster I went this was 275/40-17 radials and 26x11.50-16 ET streets...fixed it when I stopped running bias/radial mix

That's what I'm gonna do. Gonna try a bias on the front.

Is the sportsman a good tire though? I think they are 4 ply. Found a pair with some 26-10-15 slicks on draglites for 400.

I never did… I just stayed focused down track, kept the wheel loose in my hand and hammered it on down through the trap.

The Mickey Thompson site posts a disclaimer that Nylon ply and radials shouldn't be mixed. I gathered that THAT was the reason why. It's got a pretty good pucker factor… I don't mind tellin' ya.

I've used the Mickey Drag Radials and never had the problem develop.

I'm popping for some Mickey's for a Grudge Match I picked up over at an LS site, in their kill section… and may go ahead and grab a pair of nylon ply skinnies as well, just because of that.

Picker factor? Haha yea I had that goin on Friday night. I bailed, I wouldn't keep the pedal pressed down lol.

I just bought some Mickey Thompson sportsman tires. I'm hoping to go back in a few weeks to try it again. I want my 10 sec pass :(

Never tried the Sportsman… If it's a radial, you shouldn't have any trouble.

Good luck on the 10s brother.

They are supposed to be a bias ply. I hope it resolves my issues.

Be safe. There's no shame in lifting when they get out of shape.

The bi ply tires fixed it!!!

Thanks to everyone who helped figure it out a few weeks ago. Car performed well.

Trapped 123.8 but the track went away. Spun way out. Still ran 11.10 tho all motor. And on a 10bolt A4 setup.
