August of 2008, we found this little guy in our backyard.

Tiny, underweight, scraggly. But he took to our home like it was his own, and immediately was a family member.

After a battle a few weeks ago where we though we were losing him, he rebounded wonderfully. Back to his normal self, grubbing for food all the time, always on your lap, always around. Just a social lovable wonderful kittah.

Yesterday we noticed he wasn't himself. Kept an eye all day, and last night we decided to go back to sub-cutaneous fluids and force feeding because he wasn't eating or drinking. After we hydrated him and got some food down, he perked up some. Was staying in a room by himself like he did when he wasn't feeling well before, but last last night he was out in the hallway right outside our room just sitting watching, alert, like normal.

Got up this morning, and he was gone. Chance, the kitty who came into our lives almost 5 years ago by circumstances that earned him his name, left for a better place. Too short a life for any cat, way too short a life for this one. He was special to us, and will always be. And he'll always be with us.

Very sorry to hear Sean, like whats been said pets become a huge part of the family very quickly. At least you can look back knowing you gave him a wonderful home and a great life compared to living on the streets.

Rest in peace little guy. It's hard losing a pet.. I've had cats my whole life, they are part of the family around here too.

Sorry to hear man. It sux.. we lost a goat and a cat within a year. They climb into your heart and family and it is hard when they pass on. I always find comfort in the fact that they are not suffering any more.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Amazingly, I'm the one who's taking it the hardest. Of course I'm a huge cat person and Chance was a personality like I've never run across. We had him cremated today (and wiped out our finances in the process, but worth every penny) and he's back home with us waiting until we can afford the urn I chose (cat sleeping in a basket with angel wings on it's back, hand painted to represent your own cat). I know it may seem weird but we do this with every pet we've had that passed on as part of our family. I just can't see burying a family member in a box in the backyard or woods or something.

Nothing weird about that man....my cats are my kids! Very sorry for your loss. From your pics it looks like he was very happy and lived a good life.

Sorry for your loss man I know how it goes when some animal crawls into your life and you get stuck with them because they become family pretty fast

Sorry man, that sucks.. Last pet I lost I had it for 14 years, since I was 10 all the way until I was 24, she died of cancer and I had to put her to sleep, I know how you feel..
