well we finished up the car last night, one problem, the exciter wire which tells the regulator to charge the battery is not working. the only thing i changed over the downtime is the gauges. now.... the stock cluster of course had the idiot light for low voltage. well, i did not connect that wire to anything, and now am wondering if that is what caused the lack of signal back to the regulator on the alt. to tell it to charge the battery.

any input is greatly appreciated. all fuses by the door are in good working order. i realize i can just cut the wire by the alt. and then run it to a switched source. OR what i am probably gonna do is pull the alt. back off and drop it off to have the regulator swapped so it is a true single wire alternator.

thanks!!!

I believe there is a resistor in line with the stock gauges that tells the alternator when to charge.

ahh, yes, i believe you hit that on the head!!!! that explains it completely. i remember that a long time ago when i had to replace a section of wires, which had broken inside the sleeve.

screw it i will just have the regulator changed. hopefully for tomorrow. Camaro superfest is this weekend in Ypsilanti, mi. would love to put some break in miles on the car. it is only about an hour away. but i have to get some miles on her on sat. so i know i am good for the ride out there on sunday. i can probably wrap this crap up tomorrow night. and test drive on saturday.

rain needs to go away. regulator is swapped, and is now a one wire alternator.
