Just started noticing a weird rattle sound when I'm easing through the gears or coasting down while in gear, first thought was release bearing? Am I way off track? Still rocking stock clutch from 97. Aprox 85k miles now. I can push clutch in and make it stop.

Yea that sounds like the throwout bearing. Not a big deal really unless its driving you nuts.

Agreed, if it's going away with the plutch pedal down, it's probably the throwout bearing.

What I was thinking, everything is still there so to speak, just that noise, appreciate the knowledge fellas!

Scratch the throw out, does it clutch in or out, I can make it do it by just slightly revving in neutral clutch in or out. I swear it sounds like something is bouncing around inside the bell housing. I didn't remember hearing any of this until after a pretty intense bottoming out session which I think was on the tranny cross member. Not 100% though. It was pretty rough though. Everything feels fine except hearing the noise.

Can u put a camera under the car and recreate the noise for us?

Anybody ever heard of a cat coming apart on the inside? I swear it's coming from my drivers side cat. Like something is rattling around inside of it. They are magnaflows, been on the car for 8 yrs and about 25k miles

Maybe the heatshield around it is rattling?

Oh yeah...ask the guys at the dyno about the chunks of the vettes cat flying out the tail pipe.

But im thinking its hitting something. U said u bottomed out hard...my guess is u shifted the exhaust and now its bangin against something

Well that's what I was thinking too on both your counts^ but with it up in the air and me under it I had the wife working the throttle, and I can feel it and hear it with a probe inside the cat, pryed against all the shields and couldn't stop it, it literally sounds like a chunk is rattling around inside the cat like a baby rattle.
I have the bolts soaking now guess ill drop it later or this weekend maybe. I think I did make it a little closer to the oil pan but I could see the gap the whole time and it never closed enough to touch.

Probably did bust loose when it bottomed out. Might as well finish it off :p

Another thing i see people do...is put a pipe thru the inside of cat...so it looks like unhave cats for visual...but the airflow remains smooth...

Yeah but on the passenger side manifold so a little up from that cat, had to slice that one out and gut it then weld back in, thought it would be easier with it out of the car until the 3 bolts broke lol.
Been struggling with it all morning again and fingers crossed i think i got it, noticed my serpentine belt splitting apart while i was under there so now i gotta change that but the test drive went good, not hearing any exhaust leaks or anything like that.

Ended up drilling out the studs and dropping bolts back through, sure wish i had a welder at home so i couldve welded a nut on the broken studs etc but oh well, seems to be holding up. I did at least use grade 8 hardware so hopefully it holds.

Man I know, it was literally splitting in half and becoming 2 belts. Def wouldve been a broke down and stranded kinda moment.
