so I haven't had an antenna on my car since I bought it cause I think the huge antenna are tacky looking and I decided to pick up an shorty 3" carbon fiber antenna and wanted to get other opinions on it. 21343

I love those man! The big long OEM ones are ridiculous, IMO.

Nice choice!

:face_shocked:

Was that a thread in replacement, or did you have to do the base and wiring too?

I toyed with going that route. In the end I felt it would look like a powered antenna wasn't all the way down. Its all a matter of what you prefer. I cut mine down and cut the ball off the top. I drilled it out and epoxy it on the cut down shaft. It sits at roof height and not a mile in the air.

I think either no antenna or a short antenna is way to go but I do think the shorty looks better than nothing at all which is what I've ran on my 95 and my 94z and it just looked a little off

What I have done in the past of to take a pair of vise grips and close but not tight on the antenna and smack the vise grips with a hammer and the ball usually comes right off, then cut to desierd length and sharpen the antenna to a point and then fill the ball end with green locktight and carefully drive the ball back on where it will stay for good.
This method works great and looks factory afterwards. I was also told that 18 1/2 inches is perfect for fm reception too but I never looked it up so that may be wrong but thats where I always cut mine and they work just fine.

No negative impact on reception? Did you notice any improvement in signal quality after cutting it down? I'm interested in doing the same to my antenna, and 18 1/2" sounds a whole lot better than the 31" mast that the car has now. . . I'll do it this weekend if it doesn't negatively impact the signal strength, as I do listen to a lot of FM radio on shorter drives (at least until I get a new stereo in my car)

I did the to my old brand F car and several of my friends cars roo and didnt notice and signal degradation and it looked a whole damn site better than it did stock, I would have done it to my own already but I dont have any green locktite.
