I don't like wasting money so anything over bolt-ons and I'm sticking with street tires.
If you hook, you go boom (6 speed cars) so I'll stick to trap runs ;)

mine lasted a good year and a half with the 4.10s in it and i couldn't even begin to count the number of track passes with drag radials. then one day i was getting on the highway and grabbed second and boom. pulled the cover and this came out.

i blew 2 sets of 4.10s and after the last big boom that took out everything in the rear i built the 8.8

Mine is still in one piece with 40-50 passes on Nittos and a few runs on Hoosier QTP's but I am in the process of switching to an S60.

some mechanic told me that the rear end was made in two different sizes.. the 7.5 and the 7 and 5/8ths.. and a lot of F-Bodies were mated with components for both sizes because the sizes would get mixed up..
this could cause premature failure and whine..
not sure if this makes a lot of sense tho..?

I've never heard of the 7 5/8ths. I know 10 bolts come in 7.5 and 8.5 ring gears...

It's 7.625. The size that ours should be.

It's hit or miss with the 10 bolt...wheel hop will kill it. manuel trans...slip the clutch a bit...had mine 5 years with an eaton carrier and a t/a cover...Will be doing a 9" asap though

Mine had 4.10's and a small stall for years. But when I startred making a little power(low 11's) with the slicks it was holding mid 1.5's 60 foots week after week. But when I tried leaving on 200 + the 1.48 60 foot pass was enough. The second pass at that level trying for a 10.9 it went boom.

Ne1 broke with a 3.42 or numerically smaller gear?
I've known several people that have blown up a carrier or two with 3.42's. The 93 cars (M6 cars) came with either 2.73's or 3.23's but they had steeper tranny gears to make up the difference. Its very doubtful for people to blow up them up with an auto/2.73 setup.
