We're both running FAST XFI Standalones and in the time it's been on my car i've learned a TON about it.....
It's a sick setup for anyone thinking of going to it.... way better than anything else out there if using nitrous IMO.....
let me know if i can be of assistance..... emailing tunes, looking at datalogs and what not...

I'm going to need it once I get set up. XFI/383/Turbo FYI.

What do you guys think of XFI vs Gen 7 DFI as far as usability, learning curve, and functionality? FYI...I am building a 383 solid roller 7500rpm engine with a 250 speed tech plate setup and trying to decide between XFI, BS3, and Gen 7. I have all on my computer and the Gen 7 seems like the easiest but I would like other opinions.
Thanks,
Matt

Gen 7 works well but you get more out of the XFI or BS3. A lot more parameters to work with. Internal datalogging, power adder functions, traction control, EGT stuff....plus much more.

Megasquirt can do all of that minus the internal datalogging, though the learning curve is much steeper. Though I hope to upgrade my MS to a XFi system next summer when the new bullet is done.

Thanks for the info. The one feature I love about the XFI is the ability to switch the tuning on the fly via a switch. For example, I can go from a pump gas NA tune to a pump gas nitrous tune with the flick of a switch as well as a race gas tune for NA and the bottle. Where is the best place to purchase the XFI from? Also, how do you keep you factory computer for gauges and OBd2 emissions compliance? I have a 96 PCM that is programmed to pass inspection as long as it has 12 volts to it. I would rather run the XFI stand alone and have the factory PCM control the emissions status and gauges.
Thanks again,
Matt

This is nice to know. I knew Tony had an XFI setup, but I didnt know he was tuning! Im slowly working at mine and plan to go at it myself for a while though. I will hit you guys up when I run into a stumbling point. Which Im sure I will have issues down the road due to my lack of knowledge.

Well if you follow the evolution of fuel injection they were all designed by the same guy John Meaney... So BS3, XFI and Gen VII all look pretty similar save for some key features. BS3 is very geared towards forced induction.... It is a nice system but for a nitrous deal i'd definitely lean towards XFI. XFI with it's analog outputs can control nearly ANYTHING using relays and switching the relays grounds. It's actually very easy to wire up, harness is laid out pretty well with everything clearly labeled and the tech support is very knowledgeable. I had a few questions and they cleared it up quickly for me.... Reading the XFI instruction book online is killer. Internal data logging is also REALLY nice. I just upgraded to the internal data logger and it's the shit. Make a pass, download the data, make another pass, download, etc, etc, etc..... Really nice function. And at this point I'm sure Tony and I both have a BUNCH of tunes from each of our tuners so we can send out startup maps that will get your car running without washing the cylinders down. XFI's bunch of maps that come with the box aren't that great for our motors....

Thanks for the advice/info. I will def hit you up for some base maps when I get my engine back and if I decide on the XFI setup. My combo will be very similar to yours outlawZ. BTW, what compression and cam are you running in yours? Raceweight?
Thanks again,
Matt

raceweight is right around 3400 #'s with me in it..... car was 3350 without the nitrous system... i'm figuring the bottle bracket and full bottle gotta be about 40 lbs easy....
compression is 12:1, JE nitrous flattops with -5cc valve reliefs....cam is a solid roller 248/260 .704/.685 114.5 lsa nitrous cam.....jesel shaft rockers...

Your combo is very similar to mine. 11.8-1 Diamond nitrous pistons, solid roller .635 lift 258 268 @.050 but with a 106lsa., T&D shaft rockers, Ported AFR 220's and accel single plane intake.

Good read here guys, keep it coming
One question though, if I was to switch to XFI, how do I keep my factory gauges working? ??? I'm not worried about emmisions cause I don't have any on the car right now anyways.

Easy.......keep your stock PCM to run your speedometer. The oil pressure, voltage, coolant temp, tach signal (via multiple ways) can be directly wired into its sending units.

Yeah the speedo was my main concern, I know how to wire up everything else. Is there a way to run the stock speedo without the added bulk and hassle of keeping the stock PCM? Like does the XFI have speed sensor input/output by chance?

No....does not work off the same signals. The Fast does have a speed sensor parameter but you would have to use a aftermarket speedo.
