View Full Version : Doing a poll to see who would like to have a set of LPP LT1 stainless headers and Y.
We are doing this pole just to judge the interest in this forum of members that would like to buy our LT1 stainless headers and Y.
It's going to cost a lot of money to put these into production and we do have some other project that people have shown interest in.
So we are just wanting to judge which would be better for us.
I know our LT1's have always sold really really well in the past that's why I'm pushing for the LT1's over the other products.
Thanks, Carl

Hopefully by the end of this year I'll be able to do some more mods to my Z. Exhaust is near the top of that list. Some LPP Stainless long tubes, if available, would definitely be my first choice.

Though I won't be utilizing a set, I had to vote yes on this. The LT1 folks NEED something with some R&D behind it that's cheaper than Kooks. Granted Hooker and Pacesetter both are cheap alternatives, but there's no R&D there anymore, while LPP continues to revise, improve, and get everything they can out of them. In other words.....HELL YES.

COME ON!!! 78 views and only 5 freaking votes??!! You guys do realize that they are talking about scrapping the LTX Headers and moving on right?? That means one less vendor selling new LTX parts and leaving us with Ebay, Pacesetter or Kooks!!! If you view the thread it takes a measly 2 seconds to click yes or no! Even if you do not plan to buy the day they come out, who knows, maybe you will want some good quality headers later on and not spend a fortune!!!

At this moment, I can't buy a set. I'm hoping this coming year, I can get a set of these headers and put the car in a shop to get a true dual exhaust on it. My Pacesetters are rusting pretty bad and I've smashed em pretty good today. Poor things.

Well it's at 15 right now. Our minimum production run is 100 to make a profit on a normal run. But I understand I'm only asking for who's interested on this forum. If we make them I'm sure a lot of people on other forums will want them.
I'm just using this forum as a gauge of interest.
With 15 yes votes here I can't believe no one wants the satin set to test fit for $400.

LPP... would it be difficult to make the set that you are now offering for testing, polished?
Yes they can be polished but it would take you a longgggg time. Have you ever polished a wheel? Well you would have to polish all the way around all four pipes on both headers getting in between all the pipes.
Not something that I would really want to try. Yes it could be done but being mill finish your would first have to buff them with ruff polish then go down to fine polish. That's why we polish the pipes before we make them because the pipes are just straight lengths of pipe and we use a pipe buffing machine to do it. Then we do the cuts and bends and weld them up. After that we just have to do some touch ups on the polishing.

Ok when I set up this poll I was just going to put a yes answer. But then I thought well why not put a yes and no just for the heck of it.
I really didn't think anyone would say no but someone has :( So we have 17 yes's and 1 no. Why would you vote No?
Ok I can see now how I got one no vote. The guy has no post here at all ever and just joined a few days ago and didn't even make a comment in the thread about why he voted no.
I ran into this issue years ago when we first come out with the LT1 headers and I was on LS1tech. One of the Kooks guys kept setting up new user names and just making one post in every thread I had about the LT1 headers trying his best to bash them.
Some people just never give up I guess:)

Under hood heat reduction more then anything. But then you got to worry about chipping later in its life.
You could send them off and have inside coated or something. Im more of a fan of the SS look myself.

06-09-2013, 09:02 AM
I love the polished SS, don't get me wrong...however my old ones have become rainbow colored lol. I am curious to find a way to retain the polished silver look, if it is even possible...I am not sure how ceramic coating and all of that stuff works to be perfectly honest...or even what it looks like when it is done...never had ceramic coated headers. I had a set of Dynatech Satin SS headers in the car when I bought it...I took those off asap and got my LPP Polished SS headers...haven't looked back since.
MeanTA
06-09-2013, 09:12 AM
Have you used any SS polish on them to remove the rainbow?
Its a common issue. My Kook's was starting to do it by the flange and down the primaries a ways. More so after the dyno. Because if the heat from full throttle pulls.

We need to publicly shame the three people who have sets and haven't given feedback. I believe the same manufacturer that LPP uses is being used by a sponsor on mifbody because he was just getting LT1 headers and y-pipe sets out for people to test fit also. We already got his feedback in, no reason for there to be 3 people who have a set and aren't getting them installed immediately and getting the pictures -- that was 100% entirely the deal they signed up for when they bought those headers.
That said - while I already have a set on my Camaro, I voted yes because I really wish this was a permanent production item. I also wish you guys were making the true duals still also.

These will be passed along with the car to my Grandson who I gave the Z/28 to when he was a month old so they need to still be out there for the next generation to enjoy, keep that in mind ok because there will be a demand for them that will be even stronger than now later on I am sure.
I hate being broke because these would be a great first step in the right direction for my build and I have no cash, donate them for a test and review and I will do it and even send them back just so you can see how well they work and you have my word on it. from DVS on LS1tech:
"The issue I had with my LPP "SS Autochrome" headers was with their quality control and customer support (or lack thereof), NOT so much their design.
These new 3rd gen models could be God’s gift to LT1’s for all I care, I would never buy another set of headers from this outfit (dude). In this day & age you get one chance at my business, doesn’t matter what your service or product is. If it ends up being poor, you’ll never get my business again. Even if I know that is typical or the standard for that product/industry and among the competitors; doesn’t matter. If you get your chance and blow it, the next time it will be another provider getting a shot at my business.
And BTW that crappy little install thread link from LTx site is not the thread we are talking about – the LS1tech LPP install thread was massive – it was like hundreds of efen pages if I’m not mistaken, can’t even remember what the reply count was tracking. It must have been one of the biggest threads ever on this site > DELETED. All that feedback, all those pictures, all the updates from the LPP guy himself and excuses for delays, etc GONE.
I challenge somebody to find it, or explain exactly what happened to it."

-The SS LTs, sold separately from the Y?
-Does the true dual setup run these same headers, or are they specific to the true dual kit?
-Are either of the sets equal length long tubes? As I would not be running an F-body Y pipe.

Yes we will sell just header to those that want just headers and then you can buy the true duals instead of getting the Y.
The true duals do work with the headers but they were designed for the LS1 F-bodies so one of the pipes on the drivers side has to have about 1" cut off of it for it to fit.
Sorry they are not equal length headers.

We will be offering them in both polished and satin finish.
Sorry don't have a completion date yet for them.
Mean while our LT1 and LS1 F-body true duals will be back in stock in about 3 weeks.
And our 99-06 GM 1500 truck headers and Y will be back in stock about the same time.
I sure would like to see pics of the true dual set up if you have them?
Oh and X's 5 LOL
I skipped over some pages....but any word on what the pricing would be for the LT's and Y???
I've been looking for an excuse to get rid of these Pacesetter mids...

We will be receiving another test set soon with a couple of small adjustments we made.
If things go OK with them we can then go into production.

Sweet, any ETA yet on that? Are you going to be selling the test set to someone on here again or testing it on your own?
Not sure yet. The last 4 test sets we had only one person gave us good pictures and feedback on them.
The other 3 just go a hell of a deal on stainless headers and Y :(
So may have to do the install myself.

Still can't figure out why LPP keeps trying to ignore the fact that you were the first one to test them and you even went above and beyond in trying out two different k-members. You got pics when asked and did this all within a couple weeks of receiving them.

Well regardless, we all need nice headers for lt1's because the only options are pacesetter, hooker and kooks. Which are all ok but they all have compromises. pacesetter fit really good, but they are cheaply made and their y pipe doesn't fit good at all. Hooker has poor ground clearance and they are really expensive for coated. Kooks are way expensive when lpp could make something that competes directly with them, except they have an opportunity now to create the best header for lt1's.
They could become the best fitting, best performing, best fitting/flowing y pipe and stainless on top of all that. Obviously it they do all that and manage good clearance for steering shaft and spark plugs and k member and a good fitting y with good ground clearance and a good merge then obviously everyone with an lt1 would buy them. Especially if they are competitively priced. It would be a no brainier for literally everyone.
If they were smart they could also build a duals setup like tsp's except designed to fit their lt1 headers. Just a thought... wink wink.

Thats an idea... maybe headers and stuff shoould be sold... just headers... or headers and y.... or full exhaust (if avail), but no matter what there should be an INSTALL KIT for an additional cost that comes with them.
That way there is no down time for install. Like a bunch of gaskets (depending on how much of the system is ordered) and different locking fastners, etc....
Just an idea. That way the exhaust manufacturer is a one stop shop....

+1 to this! I love one stop shopping. An install kit of the best gaskets and header bolts would be awesome, like the Percy split-locking header bolts or grade 8 bolts or w/e.
Extra's add dollars to the price.
It's usually cheaper to get the extra's local.
We will be offering just the headers if that's all you want.
Or the Headers and Y combo.
We are also working on getting our true dual setup back in stock.
So you can buy just the headers, or the headers and Y, or the headers and our true dual setup.

It was my pleasure. Whatever helps to get these to production for everyone. I really like them and think the price is going to be amazing with the quality being right there with those $950+ companies.
Standing by ready for any other info LPP needs.
You can go ahead and post up the minor issue pictures on here so I can get feedback from the other members.
The couple of spots where they touch the K-member has always been hit and miss with our last version. There is just too much variance in the way GM puts them together.
Some cars they hit some they don't. It is just the flange they hit and it doesn't hurt to grind a little off if you have to.
We can try and tweet them a little more but it may cause an issue somewhere else. This would also delay production longer because we would have to do another test set.
so what does everyone think. Do another test set or go into production with a couple of minor issues that you may or may not have?
Blackbird96WS6

Not really issues that I think changes and a test set would solve, as LPP has stated. Also, issues that ARE going to be different with every car. I will highlight the small issues I had in BOLD, and label each with a picture number.
The install went pretty smooth. I started on ramps for the first few bolts, then decided to move to a lift before I got too deep on it. I don't think I would try it on jackstands or ramps for the full install.
Driver Side:
-Had to remove the lower connection point of the steering shaft. Left the top attached and set it to the side.
-Small rub from the goofy bracket of the rag joint on the header. Can be bent or removed to clear. (PICTURE #1)
-Had to remove the oil pressure sending unit.
-Did not have to remove the coolant temp sensor from the head.
-Did remove spark plugs but it would have cleared with them in.
-Came up from the bottom for the header, and had plenty of room.
-I used grade 8 locking header bolts, and have ordered a set with an internal allen head which I will provide you more feedback once they arrive.
-For those that use the locking ones I used, they are about 1-1/2" too long, and I was unable to get the 3/8" wrench on some of them since they are 12-point and require the box end wrench.
-Primary #5, bolt hole #4 on header flange needs a little larger dent to accommodate the bolt head. (This will change depending on what bolts you use)
Passenger Side:
-Had to remove starter.
-Had to remove spark plugs.
-Had to remove oil dipstick.
-Also came up from the bottom on this side.
-Header is barely touching frame in one spot. (Picture #2)
Y-Pipe:
-Went together pretty smoothly, and the flattened out section on the driver side was just the right amount for clearance.
-It was touching my bottom brake line there, which I bent up a little. Can be adjusted down with the nice slip fit connections, which should leave plenty of clearance.
-Had to remove factory hanger bracket that is on the passenger side of the transmission, held on with the torque arm bolts. The Y hits it, and it is no longer needed.
Any other questions or specific pics folks would like, I have the car parked at my work so I can get pics in about a 24-hour turn around.

Hell yeah, those don't sound like issues for them to worry about making another test run to fix. So basically a grinder and careful selection of bolts is all that's needed to ensure a great fit. Sounds good to me, put these babies into production!

These? There is so many things I can say about these but I'll hold back some:)
For one look at the welds. They are yellow. Why because they don't purge weld with argon.
You see the black around the yellow that's where they overheated the stainless and it will crack over time.
If it's yellow with black it's going to fail.
And no High velocity merge collector with merge spike:(
And no Y-pipe for them either.
That's all for now:)

All I know is I am getting close to needing a set and if they don't going in production soon I will be getting a different brand.
I talked to our manufacture today and they are telling me 45 days.
Maybe sooner because they always buffer the dates some.

45 days is not bad. Is that when members can expect them to be avail...or the beginning of production?

Don't quote me on that :D

That's not to bad at all. Gonna have to see how the finances work out for me when these are ready to roll! they look better than some headers I've seen at almost double the price!

I recall about that price, too. Can't remember what thread, though. Definitely will be jumping on these once they're on sale, regardless.

Sorry we don't have any pricing worked out yet.
I will tell you for those that forgot of don't know the last run we did a few years ago the prices were:
Headers and Y 550
Headers alone 450
Y alone 160
We are hoping to not increase the price any more than we have too.
Buttt the cost of stainless has gone up:(
And other production cost have gone up also:(
And we did re-do all the jigs twice and make several test sets.

Thanks for the updates.

Even if you guys have to bump it up from $550 a bit, it's still a killer price for the headers and Y in my book for the fit and quality. Btw, does that price include shipping or is that separate from those projected prices? I'm already saving up now to grab a set when you release them.

Any idea when the true duals will be available again? Need a time frame so I can remove my quad tipped Magnaflow exhaust. It looks nice, just incredibly quiet for me.....

Ok our manufacturer is telling me they will have 40 sets ready to ship in 2 to 3 weeks.
Sorry for the delay but with the holidays production got delayed some.
So I'm going to offer the first 40 sets to ltxtech members fist before I put them up for sale on our website just because you guys have been very supportive.
The headers and Y will be $650 with Free shipping to the continental US.
If you want to reserve a set just send an email to lpparts@verizon.net and put LT1 reserve in the subject line.
I'll post back on this thread if we reach the 40 mark.
Thanks for all your support, Carl

Well all this interest and we only have 3 people wanting to reserve a set:(
Gotta remember...Very few can throw down that amount of money that quickly. The interest is there and the LTx community needs good products like your to keep us relevant as a great platform. Taxes are coming up and you'll prob have more than a few orders from that.
We are not asking for payments at this time.
This is just to see what kind of demand there is for them.
We will have 40 sets ready to go but need to know if we need to remain tooled up to make more.
Our usually run of headers is 100 sets but we have been burned in the past making 100 sets because everyone said they wanted them but then it took a year to sell them all.
We operate on a very tight budget and every time we put too much into one product it hurts us being able to make other products.
With all the interest shown in this thread I really though I would get 40 reservation really fast:(

I would have loved a set of these a couple years ago. I barely missed out on the first batch, and I dont remember why I couldnt get in on the second batch. However, I moved on...I was the one who took a leap of faith and bought the OBX headers that nobody was willing to try. Once I recieved them, I started a thread on LS1Tech. Then the thread got very large and everyone started buying them until they went out of stock everywhere. needless to say, I wont be in on a set of the LPP's. I would like to thank Blackbird for taking the time to message everyone that may have been interested.:D
