its a tad worse than it looks. the way the dent is it looks like someopne backed out of the neighbors driveway witch we know well he said he didnt know about it he said the closest car he has seen all day to it was a lawn care truck i called and they talked to the technican that was driving the truck and they looked at the truck and nothing. there is a little brown in the scratch thats on it. the neighbor also said he though he hit it a few weeks ago but got out and he didnt. im wondering if his wife with a kahki colored mini van didnt do that and not notice? i dont know it wont be chep to fix the paint... :(

If I had to pay out of pocket I would pull that back speaker and slowly start pushin on it while some one puts a little pressure on it from the out side and see if you might be able to kinda get it out. Or try PDR like popo said.

Same thing happened to my Z but shitty part was it was my mom backed into it and just left.

You aren't gonna ruin his life by having his insurance company pay for the damages... They'll just raise his insurance rates a bit for three years or whatever until the wreck falls off his record. Get your car fixed and make the insurance company pay for it. Like popo said, that's why we all pay for insurance - use it, otherwise you're just giving up the money you pay to have insurance in the first place. May as well burn it in a trash can, it'd be the same effect lol.

i know hes paying out of pocket, depending on the cost, but i dont think they will let me upgrade hahaha unless i pay the diffrence and i still dont have fog lights so the one bumper is out of the question

Paying the difference is always an option if you want to upgrade lol. Hell, my experience with my Lumina is that every time it got hit, they "totalled" it, cut me a check for the cost of the car, then I bought it back and fixed it how I pleased and had money leftover. All depends on how they wanna swing it. Why's he so intent on paying out of pocket instead of letting his insurance cover it? It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper for him up front and possibly even cheaper in the long run depending on how much it costs vs how much they'd raise his rates.

well it depends on the price, well see what he does hahah. his acciedent history is whats causing him to pay out of pocket if possible. its just plastic, and paint witch is the most pricey part, and a wheel alignment. i dont think thats enough to total it although you never know lol

Total is usually 60-80% of the value of the vehicle. Dependant o the ins co. But u can always refuse and go to him out of pocket if they suggest total.

Just throwin options at u. idk if u saw my accident with tge unmarked...but that was a 1200 est.

Ah, I see. Sounds like he's in danger of being dropped off his insurance then lol. Well, figure at least $100 for the bumper cover, then cost to paint (no clue here, the places around me always quoted me retarded prices so I never got my Lumina repainted after I replaced shit), plus wheel alignment (last one I did ran me about $80).

As far as what the insurance company considers "totalled," it's quite different than what you or I see as "totalled." They view it form a cost standpoint - value of the car vs cost to fix. If it costs almost as much as the value of the car to fix, they'll total it to save time and money. So it all depends on how much the insurance adjuster values your car at. They tried to total my red 92 Lumina (valued at $2200 every time it was wrecked) for a fucking dent repair to the front passenger fender cuz a guy backed into me in a parking lot (tried to tell me it'd cost $1200 to fix a dent and repaint it...). So the guy who hit me paid me under the table and I just left it alone lol. Then a teacher hit me head on in the parking lot at college. "Totalled" the car, cut me a check, bought it back for $500. I got a plain black unpainted bumper cover, hood, bumper core support, etc. to fix it ($700) and called it a day. Later a stupid woman sideswiped me and messed up the 2 driver side doors. "Totalled" the car again, cut me a check, bought it back again ($500). I grabbed 2 blue doors out of the junkyard for $220 and called it a day lol. My beater car makes money for me

Good luck with dealing with the person that hit you... In my limited experience, the times a person has suggested paying out of pocket to me, they wound up trying to cheap out on paying for the repairs or wanted me to get multiple estimates/go some place cheaper. Each time it, as soon as they started going down that road, I just turned it over to insurance. Beware of "I have this buddy/guy, who is a great painter and body guy, that can fix it."

thake618
06-05-2013, 10:40 PM
I know the guy. but heres the report from the estimates. for the hit and run damage last Friday we have a est. of 851.50 to pull out a dent paint, and blend the door. he said he would help me out if there was left over paint and do my bumper cover. I think that's a lot I may tell him im gunna skip out on it because of the price and see what he says lol. I know him pretty well but they have to make money. now for the most recent accident the total est is 1,351.31 the bumper cover from gm is 370. they can patch the tiny crack in the fender and repaint the both of them. now for my end I cant wrap my mind around 850 bucks for a dent. I know another place that I worked woth before that woukld do it under the table but they had to redo a car for me 3 times, I thought they did a shitty job.. im just putting more money in the car than its worth and its not even anything I should have to do. I put thousands in the last 5 years in paint. I would be half tempted to sell it and get something better lol.

popo8
06-05-2013, 10:48 PM
I bet a few more estimates will be within 100 bucks of that est for the dent. if ubdont care...see about pdr...and worry about paint later.

I.....but im going to end up putting more money into the car than its worth

ANY money you put into ANY car.... is more than its worth.

The reason I said to let a pro do it, is because there is a way to work the edges and the metal surrounding where it went in, to strengthen and allow it to HOLD. To return metal to where it was, it must be moved BEYOND where it was initially. Its kind of an art.

Do you have any pics of the work you did?

And seriously... Gonna throw this at you again, only because I have worked in a body shop.. I have dealt with insurance companies, and as a Police Officer, I have been subpoenad for many a civil suit where people were going to handle repairs without utilizing insurance....EVEN BEST FRIENDS.

For the front: Report it to your insurance company...let them know the insurance and operator info for the AT FAULT party, and let them fix it, and get reimbursed from the other operators insurance.. THAT is why we pay for insurance, in case of accidents.

Its not your fault that he may be high risk, or soon to be dropped, but when you try to help him out and you end up getting dicked or falling short in the end, you will be out that money, or maybe have shitty work, and you will only be able to blame yourself.

Just speaking from many different experience perspectives man......

And if you take my advice.... have the place that is fixing the front quote u on the fix for the side, separately.... I bet its cheaper when they know they are already going to have materials out for the insurance job up front.
