Hey guys, I'm looking to replace the speakers in my '94 Formula (10 speaker system) with some decent aftermarket speakers. I'm on a budget, so I'll probably be doing this 2 speakers at a time. I'm also planning to rewire everything, to bypass the factory harness, since I've been having issues with the speakers not working at all since I bought the car. Currently, I only have speakers working in the front doors, and they sound REALLY bad (no low end, slight distortion in the high end), and lack the power to be heard over the engine when driving in town. In 6th gear on the highway, I can hear the stereo, but it's not pleasant to listen to, nor is the audio quality where I want it to be.

What I'm looking for, are decent speakers to replace everything with. I'm planning on buying them a pair at a time, probably through Amazon or some other site that has better pricing. I'd like to go with a set of mid-range drivers in the doors, replace the tweeters, some low-range drivers in the sail panels, and mid-high drivers and tweeters in the hatch area. I've been looking at Kicker 6.5" subwoofers for the sail panels, as they can be found around $80/pair.

Also looking at Audiobahn drivers for the doors and sail panels, they have a nice mid-bass driver that sells for $89/pair (probably available cheaper on Amazon) and mid-range driver for $64/pair. I already have Rockford Fosgate "Punch" series mid-highs in the hatch, so all I'd need is 4 tweeters to round out the package.

Eventually, I want to go with a single 10" sub in a "stealth box" with a small 2-channel amp on the back wall, but that's going to be a ways down the road, as the stealth box will either have to be custom made, or bought used for an outrageous price.

What I'm looking for are suggestions. As I said, I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible, without sacrificing sound quality. I'm not an audiophile, but I can appreciate a nice audio system. I listen to a wide range of music, including country, rock, metal, jazz, classical, pretty much anything. Just hoping for a nice all-around system that performs well, and is a noticeable improvement over the stock system in the car. I currently have an Alpine head unit, it's an older model, which I'm also looking to replace with a 2DIN in-dash unit, probably the Pioneer "AppRadio", as it offers direct support for the iPhone and a number of Android phones, so if I switch to an Android, I will still have the same functionality down the road, including navigation.

All suggestions are appreciated. I'll probably order the mid-range and bass drivers next week, and install them over my vacation in a couple weeks. I'm not opposed to installing a 4-channel amp to drive the bass and mid-range drivers, but if it's necessary, I'll need to make sure I order that before I install the speakers, since the wiring will be a little different in that case.

Yeah, send Kee Audio an email. IIRC they have some direct factory replacement options that are budget friendly and well worth the money too.

My only problem is that I'm not really looking to buy everything at once, I'm hoping to save some money by buying some of it used. I've found some decent speakers I can order right now, to replace the door and sail panel speakers, for under $150 for all four, including crossovers. All that's left at that point is a headunit and 4 tweeters. . . If I had the money, I'd DEFINITELY buy the Kee Audio Level III kit, as well as a stealth box, sub, and 4-channel amp from them, but it's not in the budget at this point, I blew through my mod money to get the car running right.

That said, I'll send them an email, and see what they have that is in my price range. Maybe they can make something happen. I will say, the prices they have listed for the stealth box & subwoofer are VERY reasonable, I will probably buy those components from them.
