View Full Version : Where would my formula horsepower numbers be at with my current mods?
Ok, so probably you will just tell me to get it to a dyno and find out but was wondering where should I expect the Formula to be at with the mods it has right now:
-Long tube headers
-No cats
-Flowmaster muffler
-160 thermostat
-Throttle body bypass
-3.42 rear end
-EGR delete
-Cold Air Intake
-B&M Shiftplus kit
-Poly motor and tranny mounts
I know they're very simple modifications but where should my horsepower numbers be at like this? Could I be anywhere near to 300 at the wheels or is that just too optimistic?

How many miles are on it.... Age and mileage reduce power as well... So that should be taken into consideration.

Lol... Dont be sad. I would love to tell u it should hit 300 at the wheels..but im a big believer in a dyno tune to make up for every mod and to monitor it for increased numbers. Others will say dyno numbers mean nothing...but since that is what ur asking about ill throw a guess out there amd say with ur ride tuned perfectly with ur mods u would be close to ur goal with a 6spd and 10 bolt...and further away on the low side with an auto and stronger rear.
Sorry its not more specific..but i dont wanna mislead u.
Do u have dynos over there (sorry if that sounds ignorant...i jist dont know. Lol)!

With a proper tune...the mods i left above are the only ones that will add to hp... And evem then some wont make a big difference.

Mine is an auto and yeah there are a few dynos around, not many but I may go one day and just see where it is at now

Yeah, I listed the mounts because they give a lot of rigidity to the motor and I've heard they let the car transfer the power more effectively to the road

ANd your right... transferring power will/may change, as well as gears...but that wont change the hp numbers.
I used to think the same way about the gears.... I figured, if the car is able to use its power more efficiently to spin the roller then it would show as more power.... but it just was not the case.
We have a dyno day coming up next month in PA (USA) if you feel like traveling with your car. lol

Cargo ship to Port of Philly... That would keep the mileage down. LOL JK

LTxTech trip to Nurburgring?
OP, after dynoing tons of cars, I would venture my best guess at right around 230whp. It doesn't sound like a lot, but keep in mind, the torque numbers on the LT1 are usually very good, and start low.

With similar mods when mine was a bolt on stalled auto it put down 296 once, usually in the high 280's through a cutout.

Oh that would suck man! I've seen that with similat mods people are close to the factory advertised power (285hp) to the wheels

That's more like what I would expect, at least not under 250 or I will be advertising mine for sale LOL

I think you're high 200's, closing in on 300. I thought most A4's could put down 235 rwHP stock. The mod's you have might add up to 40-50HP. The EGR deletion doesn't do anything for power. EGR doesn't operate above 3,500RPM or at WOT.
When you're doing things like the 160*F t'stat, you need an adjustment of the fan on/off temps, and maybe a couple degrees extra spark advance to make it worthwhile. Has it been tuned at all?
As noted though, don't focus on HP - look at what it does on the track.

~260RWHP as it sits.... If you are closer to 300 that is awesome, but I wouldn't have hopes of that going to the dyno.

Unless it has mechanical issues I don't see an LT1 putting down under 220, regardless of mileage. If it burns oil, has a miss, etc thats a different story

We've got a bit of elevation where I'm at, so that doesn't help the readings up here.
But, all he really has is a cold air and exhaust, with an auto that will eat power. M6 cars with similar work here usually net a few more ponies.
Easy way to find out, take it to a dyno and get a baseline.

1993 Z/8 A4 3.23 gears 259k all stock with a muffler!
LOL ok how much hp? funny thing is she sounds great and still burns rubber sideways and passes the hell outta traffic LOL

As for the fan on/off temps, I haven't gotten a tune yet but I do have a manual fan switch and it works fantastically keeping the engine cool in traffic :)

Yeah I think that sounds about right. I've read about guys reporting going from 250 to 285 to the wheels just after long tubes..

Well don't take my comment too seriously :) let's just say that for what I have spent so far I have higher expectations on my car than 250 hp, anything else under that doesn't sound appealing to me and I think I would be frustrated if that's the case but there's nothing an eventual 383 couldn't solve in the future don't you think? :)

Well mine doesn't burn any oil, nor has misses, engine is in great shape so I think we're good there :)
