So I decided to finish removing my HVAC this week. I cut off the A/C side a few years ago and placed a BMR HVAC removal plate over the outside. I rigged it so I could have some defrost on these cool summer nights.
Last week I got to thinking, after seeing so many cool gauges in everyone's cars, I want some where my heater controls are. So I began tearing into this dashboard about two hours ago. Needless to say, it sucks!!!!
Biggest problem is the wiring!!! Absolutely blows. I hope I can figure out where everything goes.
I ran into a problem trying to disconnect this little black box next to the passenger airbag. I could not get to it. Its really in there good and I didn't want to pry the airbag cover up. Sooooooo, I cut the wires hoping they have something to do with the airbag.
Does anyone know what I just cut? And don't say anything bad LOL. If it is, I'll splice them back together.

Not at the moment. I can get some tomorrow. After removing the dash I called it a night. Still have to figure out how to remove the hvac.
But this box is right beside the airbag up in the plastic. Had one small bolt holding it in place that I know of.

Here's a pic of the little black box.
Also, where is the vats module and what does it look like?

Started removing the plastic vent system and was able to remove the little box. Researched part number. Looks like its the VATS module I cut lol. Dumbass.....

I got her figured out. And I must admit, that's alot of damn weight. The bracket and the airbag and all the duct work weighs quite a bit. Now I'm starting to finish the heater core/hvac.

When you get the evaporator core out, could you measure it for me?

Ok. I removed it a few mins ago. I'll find a tape line and measure in for ya.

How did you pull the passenger air bag? I just pulled the cover off of it and cut it out and never pulled the dash :D

I had the same problem when removing my VATS module. I couldn't get the damn connector off and I was unable to get to one bolt. I just pried it off and when I reinstalled it I put it on sideways. (there is 2 bolts holding it on and the module has 4 bolt holes). Worked pretty slick for me.

It is roughly 9.24x8.64
I used an engineer tape line. Only thing I had here at the house. And converted it to the above. It is also 1" and a half to 2" deep.

After removing my dash, I started pryin on the cover but it kept wanting to break. I kept looking it over an there's a big heavy bracket that the bag mounts to. The two bolts on top were actually the only ones I had left keeping me from removing the whole bracket and bag.
I don't think I even need that heavy bracket so it's gone lol. There's still gonna be several small bolts on top to hold it and the larger ones on the bottom. Dash should still be sturdy I hope. So I've removed a bunch of weight.
I love deleting crap and making my car easier to work on!!!!!

Yep. I guess we live and learn. This was a ton of crazy work. I have to splice it back together now lol. If I knew what I was doing I'm sure it would have been easier.
