I just want to toss this out there so people know, Speed no longer works on LT1 cars. They will do catbacks but thats about it. Trying to get some tune adjustments done because they built most of my car and they turned me away today. Its a shame, they did go work. Now I have to find somewhere else to check and adjust my tune. They sent me to Madtuner, not sure about this place. Anyone know?

Yeah, they've been that way for a while. You need to be "in" with them to get anything anymore.

<<<< Not "in"...lol Thats ok. I have found two places while checking around this evening, one is Finish line Performance and Modern throttle in Waukesha Wi. They want my money!

Last time I bought something from Speed Inc their customer service disappointed me pretty bad. Won't be going back.
When Larry was there he always made sure I was taken care of. Not gonna bash Speed, I'll just call AMS now.

Seems that way. In January I gave them a full run down of what I needed and the type of car. Come yesterday, they are setting me up for appointment and ask what kind of car again, I tell them and "Oh we no longer work on LT1 except small stuff for the last two years".

Hm, isn't that about how long Larry has been at AMS? Lol.

I do not think they do LT1's at ams. I know Larry as well and he is a great guy that has helped since I bought my car since he was there when my motor was built. I actually bought my N20 kit and progressive controller from him as well. I will ask him if they tune LT1's but dont think so.

They had mine on the rollers 2 years ago. Car kept acting up. Never got it tuned. I'm 24x but I'm 99% they do stock PCM Cars too.

Cool...I will check. How do you like that 24x setup? Make much of a difference? you always here different things. With that you are basically tuning a LS1 tune correct?

It's cool, took me a bit to figure out. Not worrying about an opti is great, real time tuning with HPTuners is so much easier, and yea it thinks its an ls1.

Didn't FLP build that black Formula with the F1 Pro Charger on it? I have vids of it on my youtube. That sucks about Speed Inc, they looked like they did great work.

LSX's has made the GM tuning/install shops soft. I can't say I blame them. Doing any mod on a LSX is a lot easier on a LSX motor than a LTX motor, without the opti gremlins or fried PCM's.
At the shop I go to for tuning (Bluecat) 7 out of 10 LTX cars were all day headaches trying to figure out why things weren't working right. 9 times out of 10 it was opti related problems.

Yeah, it's rare I see one local that is nice still. Most the time they are pretty rough and hacked up, more head ache then it's worth.

I get that, but I did not want to change whole tune that they did anyway, just to check trans to see if it was set to lock up in third and 4th because of burnt clutches when the stall was rebuilt. That can not be that complicated can it.

Where is Bluecat out of? he did Franks impala didn't he? If speed inc doesn't tune lt1's that's going to screw me bigtime on bringing my car to the shootout, I can't bring it if it's not tuned. 1sickta do you have any contact information for bluecat? I would appreciate it.

He's in KY but unfortanly he's not tuning LTX based PCMS anymore. Franks car was a rare event.

I've got stories on Speed Inc. I won't go into detail, but some of them are not good. Larry was always a good guy though, and they have good prices on parts.
On topic for the OP though, if you are looking at fairly local tuners to the Chicago area, Mike Norris does good work in Indy. He will be tuning my LTX again when I get it back together (which hopefully won't be too much longer).

I think I used mad tuner years ago. The guys name was Ion and he did a good job for me. But there's only so far you can get with a mail order tune.

I stand corrected, FB'd Larry, AMS doesn't do LTs. They just had my car being tuned 2 years ago. He referenced me to Ion.
Yea I felt pretty screwed at Speed Inc. they cost me $250.

Finishline performance will tune your LT1 with Dyno. They are in Naperville a little south of Speed inc. That or Late Model Throttle in Waukesha Wi.
