There is more to this video. Why were they called there? What was the "active duty soldier" doing prior to their arrival? In my city carrying a firearm isn't against the law, but the manner in which you display it can be. This man's behavior is NOT consistant with an active military soldier, more like someone intentionally making a video for promotional reasons.
If the police get called to a man with a gun, any Officer with safety in mind is going to disarm them. IMO this mans behavior is the reason he was instantally restrained. That's basic safety protocall untill it's determined what's going on. His attitude and comments make me very suspicous.
This video comes to mind after watching the one you posted. This was a traffic stop with a father/son driver in a "church van". The father son appear normal but were members of an extremist anti goverment group known as sovern citizens. Not calling you out OP just want to make everyone aware. These people are out there and this is very real, police offers know this and deal with it daily. Please keep that in mind while you judge a police officer's behavior based off a video.

A lot of it is in the vid. But these cops even stated they are above the law because they are the law. I can see a few getting fired.

FWIW, not all cops have that attitude, we are not the law or above it we enforce the law the officials elected by the public have created.

Being that I am friends with many cops I see that dude as being a huge ass. There is no reason to walk down the road with a AR on ur chest other than to start some shit to get on video to make some kind of point. And to fight off any kind of coyote or predator that 45 he had would have done the trick just fine in the middle of the day. Could the cop have done somethings better, yes but nothing here needs to make him lose his job. Not like he tazed him. And dude seems kinda on the fat side to be active duty. Just sayin

While it may be legal in texas to openly carry a rifle or shotgun, be prepared to explain yourself when confronted in this day and age. As i see it, the officers were well within their right to
1) stop the man.
2) question his motives.
3) based on the answer given, let him go or detain him.
From the way he was handling himself, I would feel threatened. I see no wrongdoing. The guy is clearly a douchbag. Hopefully his son will learn that if you provoke the law, you will get popped.

Every other site I've seen this posted on has said that he's a retired veteran, not active duty.

As for having a rifle, That's the smartest thing to have. Everyone on every other site says that same thing, "The .45 is good enough."
1st of all, anything from 10 to 15 yards is a 50% chance of hitting a moving target with an auto handgun, less if you're in duress.
2nd, a normal humanbeing can be on top of you from 21 feet away in approximately 1.7 seconds. Now, imagine what a predatory animal on 4 legs can do. A cougar can pounce on its prey from 50 feet in less than .5 seconds. And have any of you ever tried to hit a moving target coming at you, it's hard as hell. Especially when adrenelin goes from 0 to 110% instantly.
A trained soldier also knows that a rifle is a blocking / striking weapon. For some it would be speculation on what would happen if it were just Joe Snuffy from backwoods Missouri. It's instilled instinct when dealing with trained personnel.

A trained soldier would also respect the officers sense of suspicion until proven otherwise.

I think the father in the vid was looking for a confrontation. Any sane person knows that officers are 100% suspicious coming into an unknown situation. He doesn't know whether you're normal and non-threatening or a whack job looking for an opportunity. But this guys attitude is piss poor. those officers didn't do themselves any favors, but his attitude and demeanor were uncalled for.

That was called "Failing the attitude test" from what I remember from the academy days, I can see dudes point but really did he have to act like an ass to get his point across?
