For you with laptops and ALDL cables.. Just for your info..Here is a new LT1 application.. http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/4th-gen-f-body/58535-obd1-scan-program-free.html been following this thread and have been beta testing the application. It's really an app to simulate TECH-1 or 2 service shop tool capability. It will read engine, transmission, ABS and SIR (seatbelt) data and DTC's and reset them. Also has some basic actuator capability to turn FANs on/off, A/C clutch on/off, EVAP solenoid on/off and activate ERG. I really like the ABS and SIR stuff as ABS readers are not available as a retail product anywhere. And the actuator routines makes testing much easier than playing with jumpers. Download is simple , it unzips to 2 files that are required to be in the same directory. The creator garydoug is open for comments and suggestions. NOTE.. This was not designed as a data logging or performance tuning application it's more of a service diagnostic tool. It will turn actuators on/of so it assumes the user knows what they are doing like not turning off fans on a hot engine, or picking A/C clutch with no refrigerant in system..

Download and opening went smooth. Won't have the car back for a few months to try it out though. Thanks for sharing!

Just wanted to say that I downloaded this today and tested it and is definitely an awesome product. Thanks for the release, I was just about to bite the bullet and pay for datamaster and now I won't have to!

Very cool to see new products for the LT1 platform. I'll have to download and try it out in the next few weeks. :D

Down Loaded 2 days ago. Looks like a good program.
My obd2 cable for my 97 came in today. I plan to do an obd1 pcm swap. Will see how this program is then.

I'm sending my old Opti (original 1994 piece - still worked when I removed it) to GaryDoug so he can add it to his engine simulator. He also seems interested in looking into the optical module and figuring out how it works, and how to fix it. Not bad for a guy who doesn't even own an LT1 (he has a 98 T/A). His work is really amazing.

I had downloaded this program Friday and got to use it today. It has a few glitches in the real time data area. You have to exit out and reopen and then all values appear correctly. As far as code scanning and the diagnosing help that it provides its a good program. The ability to to turn on fans and other equipment in the tools area is fantastic. For code reading and deleting codes this area of program is perfect. This definitely has my appreciation.

Ok I figured it out and cant wait to try it out because I have used the real deal tech 1 and tech 2, been looking for something like this for a while so I hope it works well and if so I will be happy to post up props for it.

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate it. This is actually fun for me, so it isn't like work. Keep an eye on the download site because I make changes almost every week, like this week I added two ABS motor actuators for a user who needed more capability. Also I have released a 3.4L V6 version on the same site.
BTW I have placed the latest version (I think) of Freescan on the site, as well as the scarce 3.4.1 version of Datamaster for WinXP. Also there is an OBD2 app I wrote earlier.

Thanks for the comments. For anyone who has problems with the live data scan, try this: change the Wait (ms) value to some thing around 100 or even much higher. That will slow the scan and put less of a load on the pc. If you have some utilities running at the same time, that may cause this app to push the limits of the processor. Increasing the Wait time will put in idle periods to allow the calculations to catch up.

Also be aware there is a separate user guide in the same folder with the zip file. The instruction file in the zip file is very minimal.

Update: Thanks to a generous Ken G. at the camaroZ28.com forum, who sent me an ABS-TC module for a 96, I can now say that this app and the one for the V6 will read and reset the ABS trouble codes for the 96. It will also, at this time, display the non-TC live data. Having a TC-type module that is compatible with the 94/95, the TC data is now something I can add as time permits. The app will not, of course, read the OBD2 PCM; but you can use it for the ABS only, after turning off both the Engine and Transmission scans.
The cable for this would be the same as for a 95, since the ABS module was still on the ALDL/OBD1 bus in that year.

There was only one minor change to be made, to the app's MALF.csv file, to add a TC-only DTC34 for the left rear wheel. It would appear without a description before the change. BTW, in 96 they added the number "12" to the front of all the ABS codes, so DTC34 became DTC1234. The app still shows only two digits for all codes.

It is nice. Once connected you can cycle things in and off like fans, abs light, different idles, to help troubleshoot stuff. It's what I will use most when I can get the car to connect to something.

BTW, the full user guide is in a separate file (about 1mb). The instruction file included with the app is minimal.

Scan9495 has NO programming capability and can't brick anything. Neither can Freescan or Datamaster; they have no ability to write to anything. It's no more invasive that a handheld scanner.

XP is not a problem. Any of these can run on XP. As a matter of fact, the older version of Datamaster (hackable 3.4.1) will only run on XP.

At one time, my app did not work on XP. That was fixed. I will check to see if the instructions are outdated. Thanks.

I read beyond...and found that you said "it should work on xp now..." but prior to that it did read that xp was not compatible.

Really? I can't find that in the current release. What is the date on the zip file? V1.0.1 is the latest.

OK. I fixed that one, but other forums don't allow me to edit very much later, so they must remain the same. Bottom line: Remember that those posts were done wile the development was in progress and indicate the capability at the time.

I do understand. Thank you ... sorry for the confusion.

I got this message putting it on my second laptop. I had to install the cable driver again and my laptop made it COM7 by default so I changed it down to 3 as Datamaster would only let me choose 1-4.

I need to report that there was an error in the Scan9495-V6 zip file which is intended for use with the L32 engine V6 cars. The file contained the MALF.csv file for the V8 cars instead of the MALF-V6.csv file for the V6 cars. That has been corrected now. Renaming the file, while it would allow the L32 app to run, would render the DTC feature inoperable. It would show either no DTC's or the wrong DTC's.

Again, this is for the V6 cars, not the V8 cars.

Update:
To all users:
I have placed a beta version of this app in the Trials folder. It has added automatic transmission datalogging capability.
It produces a file similar to the type for the engine scan but with the word "trans" added. There is no capability yet to load the file into the app for viewing. So you might want to use Microsoft Excel or Apache Calc to view it effectively.
There is an added transmission data tab to the right end that has a new format for the transmission data but the old tab works as usual. Eventually the old one will be removed. The new tab uses a checkbox to select the datalogging.
If the checkbox is checked and scanning is started, a datalogging file will be created separately from the engine file. It is not necessary to run both logs or both engine and transmission scans at the same time.

I would like to ask a favor of anyone with a normally-acting transmission. It would be a great help to have a known-good log file to use in comparing results. If some users could run a short scan while driving the car a few minutes it would be a great help. Just drive normally from a stop up to about 45mph through all the gears and slow back down to a stop. It would also be helpful to make sure the TC lockup occurs even if that takes longer to scan. You can elmail the file to me at scan9495@gmail.com. ManyThanks!

By the way, this app had had over 600 free installations. Folks email me almost daily with thanks. Might want to pin this topic?

Thanks to the fine effort by "rngilliland" (Rob), we now have a known-good auto transmission scan. It is posted in the same folder as the beta version of the app. In the future, it will be inside the main zip file. Thanks Rob!

This app now supports the 93 LT1, all scan features except the early 93 SIR module. Late 93 SIR is the same as a 94. The 93 SIR may be added soon.

I've been using this program for a few months now. Haven't had a single issue with it. Works great for abs diagnostic. can also command open loop which is good for testing. That's just what I've used it for.

Tubby says com port not available? The only time I get this error is if I'm already running another program like tuner pro or winflash or if my USB is not connected to the computer.

Thanks for this great program Gary, I'll help in any way I'm able.
