So I have a 95 camaro
Full exhaust
K&N CAI
Mild built tranny w/2600 stall
Fastest time is 12.94 1.9 60' at 105 mph
I wanna get to 12.5. Next parts will be 3.42s and some M/T DRs
Do you think ill b meet my goal with the gears and tires?

Whats your current ratio?

I would consider going 3.73's over 3.42's. I'm assuming your a stock 2.73 rear right now?

A good set of tires will surprise you. What are you using now? Also, look into some simple weight reduction and rear suspension upgrades.

How the F*** are you running a 12.9 with those mods.

It was really hard to get the 1.9 60'

Tires and gears will go a long way. i think ur et is FAST/low for ur mods as well...but If thats legit...tires amd gears will wake it up...at the same time...tires will prob grenade ur 10bolt also.

Exactly why I run a decent street tire, no traction issues at the track, but no worries either.

Yeah im very surprised about the time but the mods are legit. Do you think I should get 3.42 or 3.73? I do not have lock up thats the only shitty part so I will probably get a new converter before gears.

I am calling you out on these high twelves. You would need like 400hp to push a 2.73 car in the high 12's.

04-07-2013, 11:39 PM
Ok..

Also you do not need 400 to go in high 12s....

At the crank? Probably. 2.73 is a very shitty gear ratio for drag racing.

I totally agree with it being a shitty ratio for racing

Don't know why you are calling him out on high 12s, my bolt on m6 with 3.42 gears went 12.8 with a 2.0 60 foot.

depends on a lot of things, weight and torque are the main ones. power transfer through the drive train is another.

O I did forget 2 more mods.
I have no front sway bar and no spare tire

At first I called b.s. in my head with the times. But it is possible. But with a stall good 60 foot you can get there

Then I must have no top-end with the same exact mods, I pull a 1.8 60 foot, compared to 2.0 but run a full second slower in the quarter.

What kinda DA do they see in Missouri?
That has alot to do with it also.....

DA is hardly anything at the tracks in Missouri...

I understand where your coming from but all he asked was what would help him get his times down. That was answered with getting some gears. The times don't really matter the answer would be the same. That then spray the shit out of it.
Edit: On a Calc his ET with a Weight of 3600* is right around 325WHP, not that far off of what it should be. GM has alot factory freak cars.

I would think a higher stall would help too. Isn't 2600 stock stall?

Good quality stall (no less than 3000), sticky tires, and 3.73 gears. You will be amazed at the difference. You must be pretty happy with your times now with very little mods and street tires. That's not easy to do.

1600 is stock stall
eez28
04-08-2013, 08:49 AM
Yeah im very happy with it so far but its not consistent at all because of the street tires

get some gears, sticky tires and a PTC converter.
What brand converter is in it now that its a non-lock up setup?
eez28

Its a TCI converter
I'm assuming you've a 12" remanned TC… Which will work. The combo is going to do one thing FOR you and one thing TO you.
The tires will trim a solid two tenths off that 60'… with the Gears easily getting you the rest of the way. BUT to be sure, go for the 4.10s, assuming ya really want to nasty it up proper. Daily drivers will not enjoy the Fuel Economy on the E-way… but there's no other downside… except:
This will all be just in time to get you ready to rebuild that tranny and ten bolt. While you're re-gearing, get a girdle for the 10-bolt. It might help… and by 'help', I mean -delay the inevitable- … But a grand next year is always better than this year, IMHO.
Good luck and keep the pointy end up front.
Nah… A sweet cold night on a low el, sticky track would set him up for a good nights runnin'. I went through this same crap when I first started out. The Car was just a screamer and I had all sorts of people 'calling me out'. "Post a slip!". I was beside myself with the angst… had to go to Officemax and scan my slips. Posted them up and they claimed I was using a bogus slip.
At the end of the day, it was just the naturally enviable combo of exquisite driving :hi:and a hot car… (or was hot driver and an exquisite car?). Nope… Exquisite driving, hot car.
I'm sure.
I would think a higher stall would help too. Isn't 2600 stock stall?
Good call… My first stall was a remanned 2400 TC from a local shop. Worked great… Killed my tranny, but it definitely improved my 60'.
First real stall was the 3200 Vig. That thing hit like a BOMB. Routinely producing 1.5x 60s… Fell off on the top end tho'… When that killed the first ten bolt, I decided to try the SS 3600 Yank on a new set of 4.10s… still hits hard, but doesn't give up quite as much on the big end.

I ran a 13.93 with a bone stock other than CAI and shift kit on my last z28 with a 2.73 gear...
