Ok, I'm not sure how partial the Ford vs. Chevy war is here but let me tell you, WOW. Those fuckers are fast. They don't have the tourqy pull feeling of the lt1's bu they do have a "rush of power surging forward without being thrown back in your seat" feel. No jerkyness at all. It's so smooth I bounced off the revlimmiter during the test drive because I couldn't feel or hear the damn thing rev. LOL. I was just obsessed with the surge of power the car was making. The 255 tires can get blown off easy but its nothing I couldn't fix with better driving.
I took the thing on a curving road I knew close by and it takes the curves better than my z28. Obviously this isn't a fair comparison but I wanted to get a baseline to compare too when I put in all my koni/strano suspension that I have waiting. This car had the handling package too so it had brembo brakes (same as cts-v 4 piston) and they stop great. Makes up my mind really easilly that the cts-v brakes are something I want to do. Now the engine! It's so weird because it doesn't start making any power until about 4500 and then it rev's so fast to about 6500-6700 then the dash promptly starts flashing red lol. I swear I bounced on the rev limmiter 3 or 4 times because 1) I was distracted by the awesome power, (JAW ON FLOOR) and 2) the damn thing revs to fast/smooth that I couldn't even feel it when it was at red line, plus the stock exhaust is soo damn quiet compared to my camaro LOL.
Anyway, I am setting my personal baseline comparison or bar at this 5.0 mustang. My goal is to buildup my car to be even with this beast or at least even, maybe better in a few ways, but it will be tough with CA smog laws complicating my engine setup a bit. I'll have to get creative and a really good tuner. Anyways. Oh, and I don't really want FI unless I can get a rear mount turbo because (CA SMOG) and even then I don't want to worry about it, oil etc. I'm a poor college kid. FI's isn't in the budget, but then again nothing really is. LOL.
I just had to share my experience. Now I hate the engine and love it. It doesn't make much torque but it does build top end but the power-band is really narrow. Now on the other hand while it feels worse than the lt1/ls1 it makes way more power and that does feel cool even if it means I accidently hit the revlimiter's because it revs so fast and I can't feel the tourque curve.

I like the Coyote motor cars. Been telling my wife if the 2015 concept comes out looking like the concept it'll be my next fun car purchase.

Technology..... what can you say?
As time goes on we can only expect that things will get better.
Miss Popo's 6cyl Genesis is a lil faster than my 1985 TPI vette in the quarter.. hows that for a slap.

Yeah, just think, modern V6s are pushing out more HP than our stock LT1s that are 17 yrs old. Probably another 5-10 years and a stock LT1 will get rolled on by a Camry or something :(

Drive one of the super snakes or this year's gt500. Before the bottom fell out from underneath my business, I almost bought a gt500..i was torn between it and a Hennessey Camaro.. I took my time deciding cause the cars were able to be order... Then the economy caught up to me.. Glad I waited
But the mustangs aren't slouches..

I just drove a baseline 2013 camry when I went to reno for vacation. I don't think they will ever catch up to the power of a 4th gen z28. Probably not even to a v6 z28.

Yeah I took a new GT out for a spin a few weeks ago, and like you said it fast. However the 38k price tag just didn't justify it for me, and I found it well.........kind of boring. Just seams like anyone can drive that thing. Yes they are super fast, but you don't get that "edge of your seat" feeling. Same for the new STI, and evo MR. They just don't do it for me, but that's just my two cents. LOL! This makes me sound like a snob.

I hear you. There is just way to much tech controlling new cars. I prefer the brute archaic nature of our cars.
They are fast though. never drove a new mustang. But drove my friends SS and i have a Charger SRT8 bumble bee. But not the same granted my car weighs over 2 tons.

The whole idea here of the Ford vs Chevy thing vs our stuff really is trying to compare apples to hand grenades but the really cool thing is in my book is that they are American muscle and thats the bottom line for me period, I have never been a Ford or Chevy or AMC or Dodge guy but I have owned all of them and I can say that the best car I ever had was a Ford Mustang because it NEVER left me stranded but the best cool car I ever had was a Dodge Challenger and my Camaro has given me the Best happy feeling driving it.
I have a plan for the new job I will be taking the next step tomorrow in getting and that is to reward my girl with a Mustang and instead of getting her a new 5.0 ect I would like to get her a supercar in the form of a GT500 even tho its used, I will have a budget of 25k or so and I plan to save up 10k to put down and pay off the rest inside of a year.
I have looked at the 2008 up Shelby GT500 and I think she will love it (fits my budget) and it will totally be hers right down to the license plate that does homage to her dad who passed away with the fireman(he was a Fireman) logo on it, it will read (NEENS) for Jeneen with the fireman at the right corner of it. I will still be LTX to the bone and I have been thinking of doing an LTX powered Vega with a lot of boost. I have the youngest sons car here that is a 1980 Cobra Mustang that we will be doing a 5.0 swap on it right down to the air bag steering wheel ect on soon too so I guess what I am trying to say is ROCK ON with the 5.0 thing but stay LTX :)
Gotta love the tech that is out there these days................... sorry for rambling LOL.

I have a buddy with a 5.0 Mustang and they're no slouch... but I also have a buddy with a mildly cammed LS1 that was door to door with him on the street too

I have a friend that had a gt500 vert. We went out in it and it just felt like any other car to me. He got on it some and I remember looking over at the speedo and said...oh we are doing 80..... felt like 50. I really wasn't impressed especially for the price tag. I guess I was expecting more. There was no raw race car feel. It just felt lazy to me. I like the feeling of being pinned back in the seat and that car just didn't do it. Loved the way it looked though.

I agree - and to be honest, credit for that goes to GM. Like when the 2010 Camaro came out and they said "Oh, that's how much horsepower your Mustang GT puts out from the factory? That's cute, that's what our v6 puts out." Definitely re-ignited the HP wars.

Thank god that ERK kid isn't on this forum, his slow ass car and his mouth are annoying as $hit. He nutswings on everyone else's fast LSX car cause he can't pony up and build a car, but his high 12 sec ls car just doesn't make the CUT LMAO!!!!!!

I looked at ordering one before I got the Corvette, with having the T/A it didn't make sense since I didn't need the back seats. The 5.0s are stout, they reminded me a lot of 4th gens when they were new.

I hate almost all Fords. Especially Mustangs. I've driven plenty of friends. Some of them were just as fast as my Z. The only Ford I actually would ever like to own is the Ford GT. But given the sticker price, I never will.
That being said, I do respect them, and I know Ford has really stepped up their game with the new ones (I think they had to with the new Camaros and Challengers getting so popular). I also have very good friends who own Cobras and heavily modded GT's and again, some of them are very fast. But I always liked how my GM cars drove because they are very different than Fords.
