Looking for some help here hopefully. Anyway I took the LT1 out of my DD impala to put in my caged up mustang that has been waiting for a motor. Anyway figured this would be the cheapest route for right now. Motor and trans are in, just need help with cooling system. Got a Griffin radiator for it cheap, only problem is that radiator is opposite of GM as far as where the upper and lower hoses go. I'm running an electric water pump, so flow would be going opposite.
Also question about the LT1 steam pipe that runs to the back of the heads. Since I'm not running the heater core or a normal GM radiator I was wondering how to run the steam pipe so water still circulates. Also if the radiator will work or if I will have to run a GM style radiator

Here is a colored diagram showing the flow of the cooling system. I believe the "reverse flow" portion only takes place in the engine. Meaning that grow through the radiator should be the same. As far as the steam crossover tubes goes, they can be tied into any open port on the radiator.

Best way to tie it in is a t on the hose from the motor to the radiator be it whichever one that ends up being for you

So even though the inlets and outlets are opposite of GM, and I have an electric WP I can hook the hoses up from the outlets of the WP to the side of the radiator it is facing?
Also would I be able to tap into the radiator and run the steam line into it?

Thanks,
Greg

You can tap into the radiator if you want to my buddy just put a ltx in a 95 mustang. Here is his setup.

Thought i had a picture with the steam pipe hooked in but i dont. Its hooked into the top one running towards the drivers side. Thats the return line. You dont want to steam pipe feeding into the feeding line because you will be pushing hot coolant back into the motor. Just make sure which way your coolant is flowing and run the steam pipe to the apropriate side. Thats the stock mustang radiator.

Thanks badbird. My radiator is opposite of that. The passenger side port is high, the drivers side port on the radiator is low. Don't know if the picture came up but should be able to click on the link

I see. Use that radiator just run the gooseneck off the bottom port and the return off the top. Should be no issues that way.
